I'd just like to say that I completely agree with you. The never forget lines just seemed to me like they wanted to say -something- but couldn't think of anything.

I'd rather they just didn't say anything. It made me feel icked out.

I have unpopular opinions too. You should hear some of them. :)

For a very unpopular opinion - I wish people would at least base panic, fear and sadness on statistics. Don't fear swine flu or terrorists - fear (& try to catch or prevent) skin cancer & heart attacks. Be sad about the millions worldwide that die from TB, malaria, AIDS, malnutrition & traffic accidents.

Or the hope and love stuff, that's even better. Just saying that if people have a predetermined amount of fear and sadness they feel like divvying up over the year, they should distribute it more logically!

It would be nice to see a new media channel that encouraged people to think about why we were attacked instead of stirring up hate and fear and "patriotism". Well, America, let's try to figure out what we are doing wrong and try to see the other guy's point. Instead of pushing the dichotomy of us vs. them, try making people understand there are many layers to the problem. I see such a habit of media using this formula- rep. vs. dem., America vs. the Middle East, patriotism vs. Islam, blah vs. blah. It's like no one remembers there are more than two choices. it bothers me. I often wonder how to make people educated and to make people WANT to be educated instead of just ignorant ( ... )

It's really rather unfortunate that people have chosen not to think for themselves and to accept every little bit of information spewed from their televisions as fact. If you ever find a way to help people learn to, well, to want to learn, please let me know. It's one of the saddest and most frustrating things. I wish people wanted to live outside the black and white they are spoon fed.
