A small pic spam and a review.
I don't usually tend to do these big fan reviews and what not. However, today I shall.
Soooo today, besides also being Thomas's 22nd birthday was GenCon Australia. It was at Southbank in Brisbane, only a short distance from my house. I got woken up at about 7:45 (thanks Ben) and caught a bus in about 8:30-ish.
I went in heaps early cause I remembered the lines at Supanova this year were nutso. But it actually didn't seem to be that bad. I was real confused at first, there were about 3 different places to get tickets. There was 'badge' collection, event registration, and something else. I eventually figured it out and made my way inside.
As always I made a beeline for the signing area (i took my bsg dvd along, just HOPING maybe teh interwebs lied to me about baltar and apollo....unfortunatley they did not) and got my tickety thingys to get a photo with Alan Tudyk/Wash from Firefly. He was cool, way nice too, yet AGAIN I had nothing to say other than 'Nice to meet you, im serena blah blah blah' Why cant I ever say anything else!?

Also got him to sign my Serenity dvd, which now takes my total amount of signatres on it to 4. All I have remaining is Mal, Jayne, Simon, Zoe and Inara (shit thats heaps!) and if possible one day i wanna get Joss Wheadons one.
While on the topic of Alan, also went to listen to his Q and A session. Apparently he likes to hand stuff out to people who ask him questions. So me being someone who NEVER has an intelligent question to ask managed to get this one out "What was it like playing a naked stoned guy for the entire duration of a movie?" (re Death at a Funeral...its the most recent thing of his ive seen. It was LOL)
His response was lolworthy, saying that pretending to be stoned was fun, yet being naked the whole time was slightly cold.
So as my present for asking a question he had a pack of Firefly cards in his bag and grabbbed one of Nathan Fillion and signed it.
It looks more like a scribble rather than a sig, but still if you look closer you can see hes drawn fake boobies on Mal's chest. He kept going on about how he an Nathan are always trying to out do each other so it was pretty amusing.
Anyways, moving on. OH I had one of those genuine 'fan' encounters that you sometimes read about on blogs. I was standing in the middle of the walkway, yes it was an inconvienient place to be standing, and all of a sudden I fell this shove and knock on the shoulder, I turn around and heres Paul McGillion (aka Carason Beckett from SGA) running into me and then apologizing profously for doing so! It wasn't until after he had walked away did i realise who it was! Noes! Lol.
So then I walked around for ages looking at stalls and such. Most of it wasn't really my scene. A lot of it was all anime and gaming stuff. However, there was 2 booths that were shrouded in BSG paraphnaliea! It was fantastic! And also a little bit sad for I assumed there was so much there because they thought JC and JB would be making an appearance. Damn that bsg shooting schedule! THEY EVEN HAD DOG TAGS! But had sold out of Starbuck ones. *annoyed* The lady told me I could order them with her when she gets another shipment in. I think ill do that. They were only $35. But I bought some other crap from her anyways. I found an awesome glass with Starbuck written on it along with a pic of her viper and the bsg logo. I also bought a pack of bsg trading cards, dont ask why, they just looked pretty.

Found an X-Files shirt aswell amoungst all the stuff. I like it cause its the poster from Mulders wall. I shall be wearing that to my viewing of the new movie. Hell yes. Which btw, Tom has made me promise to go with him to see it cause apparently I was supposed to take him to GenCon with me, but didnt cause it was his bday today and didnt think he'd want to spend it there. All good though, hes going tomorrow. :)
What else? Oh yeah, remember at supanova how Darth Vader snobbed John and I? Well I went an ambushed the whole bloody lot of them and made them have a photo with me. Ha. Speaking of John. The Klingon society wanted to put him in their fake jail and make him pay money to get out. I found this amusing.
I dont know why I didnt hide that damn plastic bag...makes me look like an idiot!
So pretty much it was a pretty ok day. I wish there had been more comics for John to look at and buy. They had set up old Nintendo 64's on some screens in a gaming section and we stood and played the original Mario Kart and Smash Brothers on them forever! It was awesome! Nintendo 64s were the best!
Finally, this guy absolutley made me go eh? Cool costume though.
And thats about it. Mostly there were a shit load of nOObs and a massive LAN party. I was amazed at the amount of V cans sitting around about the place. True nerd style. Way to go guys. All in all, not bad for first effort in Oz.
