I do agree it was a step backwards for her character and I definitely don't condone the idea of leaving Baltar to bleed out. I definitely think if she had gone through with it she would have regretted her actions later. It's just that my feelings about the whole thing weren't hate. I felt sorry for her and what had led her to that decision. For the same reason Baltar doesn't deserve to die, Laura doesn't deserve to be condemned.
It was definitely an act of selfishness but with Laura and Baltar it always is. To Laura not only is Baltar the reason for so much hardship in the fleet and more personally but he is the constant reminder of what happened on New Caprica. Maybe this is over analysing but I think Laura feels a lot of the burden for what happened on New Caprica, as if she could have prevented it, and with Baltar around it never goes away.
But I think it's important to note, on the forgiving side of things, that initially she was saving him, despite New Caprica and her dislike of him as a person. The decision to let him die didn't come until after her admitted the destruction of the 12 colonies was his fault. Her reaction was of the moment to that news, had he been healthy I 100% know she wouldn't have attempted to kill him.
But anyway :D bsg is the only thing I get really philosophically/morally involved in :D I do love it.
