He didn't think Ellie had forgotten Mother's Day. Chuck was just early, probably just a little overeager to make up for the year before. So eager, in fact, that he'd already set up the table near their hut with a table cloth and two place settings, and had attempted to cook something.

It wasn't exactly the same as the one recipe for chicken that his dad had taught him, but it was close. And Chuck was sure that they weren't going to die from it or anything.

...pretty sure anyway.

It made him vaguely wonder if doing taste-tests was in Casey's job description as his handler.

But helping out with the cooking was the least that Chuck could do this year. After all, Chuck had been the one to almost disappoint Ellie back home by standing her up for dinner. Sure, there'd been an international incident and a kidnapping involved, but this was Mother's Day. It was their own special holiday, and it was more important than almost anything.

This year, he determined not to screw it up.
