So we just came back from Mexico. We went expecting this great wonderful vacation and boy it was terrible. Oh MY it was bad. For the sake of saving time, here is an email I sent out last week:

The pool is nice, our room is okay, the facility is nice, but it's kind of a joke. We got here Tuesday night and by wednesday lunch we had decided we wanted to leave early. There are five restaurants here but only three are open for breakfast and lunch. One is the poolside grill that serves only hot dogs and french fries, buffet style. The one other is the big buffet restaurant. For lunch Wednesday they had an "Italian pasta buffet" theme where you pick your toppings and the pasta and the sauce and they mix it all up for you. One of the topping choices was hotdogs. Seriously. They also claim to have a sushi bar, but it's three plates of California rolls sitting out in the sun. If that's not a way to get seriously sick I don't know what is. So after that we decided to find flights out for today but they were all too expensive. We talked to our travel agent and she tried to find us another resort to move to but it was also going to be too expensive. How sad is it that we'd rather be home than here? I told Shawn that the Hackinsons must not like vacations. So. Breakfast is the best meal of the day. We kind of pack it in for breakfast and then make the best of the rest of the day. Once we made peace with the situation it got a lot better. We probably won't be coming back to Mexico, I have to say.
> Yesterday was the wedding, it was pretty nice but totally not our style. The boys looked really handsome in their suits. It was nice but it was kind of dull. It felt like we were all sitting around pretending to be fancy. Meh. Anyhow. Today Shawn and the groomsmen and Bill are going deep sea fishing. I am a little worried because of course today it looks stormy and the seas are rough. They are gone from noon to four and the kids and I are hanging out. I let them go to the kids club area for a little while right now. It's just a little supervised play room where they can color or play with blocks. Gray is becoming very artistic and at home spends an hour or more each morning coloring, cutting our paper, gluing stuff together, etc. He jumped at the chance to go color some pages. I think they kids need a break from each other and from us too. I'm just going to leave them half an hour or so and then get them out. I just sitting across the hall where I can still see them drinking a beer. Yeah, it's noon but it's free, right?
> So. We have Sunday and Monday and then we go home. Probably a majority of that will be spent at the pool. Both kids are making huge progress with their swimming. They are both still needing life jackets to stay afloat but they are doing awesome. Park had it down in about 15 minutes, Gray needed a day to get mentally prepared but he's totally doing awesome now. They may make it yet!
So, turns out the seas were too rough for the fishing and he came back early. Sunday we had planned on doing the fishing for father's day but the harbor master still wasn't letting any boats out. We finally made it out Monday. It looked a little rainy still, but we braved it. The kids were excited about the boat and seeing what daddy would catch. We walked down the beach to the boat and it began to sprinkle slowly. Also, our fishing oat was a 10 foot motorboat. we put the kids in life jackets and had them sit on the floor of the boat to lessen the chance of a kid overboard. After about 5 minutes it started looking better, the sea evened out, we were all feeling a little more positive. Aout 20 minutes in it began to rain lightly. Then it began to rain a little more, and a little more, and then the wind started up. Then Gray started saying he felt like he was going to be sick. By then it was full on storming the kind of storming where the rain stings when it hits you. The kids are crying and huddled on the floor, we're all completely soaked, Shawn and I just break out in hysterics. We give up. The Hackinsons don't like vacations I guess. It was funny.
We are home now and SO glad to be. I have been cleaning up the house and now m about to start cleaning myself up because I have a date tonight! Shawn and I are going to see Jerry Seinfeld and it's going to be awesome.
