Laura-Michel - February Foodie PenPal & her awesome package!

WOW!! Seriously, just WOW!
Even with the few scant emails between us Laura-Michel seemed to know EXACTLY what I love and what I have been eager to try. Not only that, but she sent my FAVORITE kind of FPP package...the kind that is themed to the state she lives in!

I have been quite eager to try Somersaults but I just haven't yet because of the price. Guess since they are from California they aren't as expensive over there. They are delicious!! I will continue to treat myself to these little yummies!

Sardines, this made me laugh because in her letter she mentions that even she hasn't eaten them yet (she is new to California hailing from New Orleans originally). I actually love sardines. I mush them up with a fork into a paste and mix in a tiny bit of olive oil and some red wine vinegar and scoop little mounds of it on Triscuits. My husband thinks this is disgusting, but I love them!! It was the first thing out of the box I ate. Toasted coconut chips. Yeah. This gal gets me. I looove coconut in any form! Minced ginger from Gilroy...ginger capital of the world...ha! Ha! dare I tell her I actually AM a ginger? This smelled so delicious when I opened it I plan to use it for gingerbread later on this week. And the berry & cabernet preserves. Wine from California! How totally perfect!!! And speaking of perfect, fresh garlic...you know there is a HUGE garlic festival out in California each year. I have always wanted to go. I went to a small one in Vermont once and it was amazing...I had the weirdest most delicious thing there...garlic ice cream. I know! Trust me, it is everything you'd never expect.Tangerine olive oil. Where she lives there are lots and lots of olive groves. Guess it is like cotton here in Tennessee. Can't wait to find something special to use this on! And almonds!! Wow!! I MUST find these "California Crunchies" down here. She sent me sea salt which was delightful, sun-dried tomato which was zingy, smoked almonds which I would love to find again and use one a cheese ball sometime, and herb flavored almonds which changed my world!! I wish that little baggie was so much larger. I was sad when they were gone. Ginger peach tea which was so refreshing! I had one cup hot and one cup cold...I honestly can't determine which was was better. I loved them both! And finally, Ghiardelli...nearly the best chocolate on earth!! I say nearly because we have a small local chocolate maker in Nashville, Olive & Sinclair. You haven't lived until you have tried their chocolate. Sadly my totally amazing pen pal is allergic to chocolate so I was unable to send her a sample.
