Cymbals! Shiny!
I need a new cymbal. Good cymbals are expensive. Drumwright are having a Crazy Sale. This is a dangerous combination.
So I got a new ride cymbal, because the Blues Brothers band have been saying my old one is too loud and clangy. Well, it was a lower midrange model when I got it, and that was about 15 years ago. What I didn't plan on was that I would end up buying an 8" splash as well, because it was just too damned cute not to be mine. It's adorable.
So if you throw in a new boom stand because my old one was falling apart, plus a couple clamps and arms to mount the new splash and my tambourine, I've spent in excess of £300. OTOH, if it hadn't been for the sale it's still less than I'd've paid for the ride cymbal alone. And hey, it's almost my birthday so I'm treating myself.
