Hey there, Hi there, Ho there... yeah that's right, you get to hear my lame stories again... deal.
So first up is the one i want to get over with due to the fact that i feel like a complete idiot.
i've known how to ride a bike for how many years now? my parents would know better than i would, but i am assuming its around 15 years. the thing is, i've never rode a road bike, the racing bikes with the REALLY thin tires and the seats that stick as high as or higher than the crazy, loopy handle bars. my roommate has one.
yesterday i was on my way to the gym to pretend to be in shape and as i was walking out the door she said, "you are more than welcome to use my bike if you want." (i had asked when i first got here if i could and she had said of course.) so i decided to give it a go for the first time. i had my over-the-shoulder bag on that had my shower stuff in it as well as a change of clean clothes. ... that put me a bit off balance for one, not only that, but i had never ridden a bike like that in my life, so that was a new experience as well.
now, i never fell in the 5 blocks that i tried to ride this bloody thing, but yeah--i couldn't stop either. i ended up jumping off and staggering momentarily when i wanted to stop. the next bit that was amusing was me trying to get back ON the bike--i'm too short for it, so i had to find a fence i could use to steady myself and then i had to hop on the bike while trying not to let my bag fall down...i finally made it back to the house, brought the bike up, and decided that perhaps i'll try riding that thing another time.
i then went out back to get her mountain bike. i took one look at it and realized she had the same set up with that one as well--i swear she's not that tall, but she keeps those bloody seats jacked up and i KNEW i would have the same problem as with the other one.... i finally ended up walking over to the gym like i had originally planned. only this time with a bit more gear grease smudged on my legs...
The second story is the ball game.
Now, i have never been much of a baseball lover. In fact, i never liked it. Then i ended up going to seattle and making friends with people who love it--almost breath the bloody game. so they got me to go to some Mariners games. i have since become a fan of MARINERS baseball--nothing else really. baseball is a lot more interesting when you have people with you who love the game. the closest i was to the game was behind the bullpen, which was cool.
then i came to Washington, where seeing a ball game is a part of life because the teams are so incredibly close to each other. So... i got tickets to go to an Orioles and Yankees game. i went with people who love the game--a definite plus. the seats, however, made the game amazing. I was RIGHT behind home plate, like 8 rows back... i could SEE the stitching on Jeter's uniform. the seats were amazing, and i didn't even have to pay for them!!.. hehe...i think i have become a yankees fan
my last story has to do with an on-going project...
Britt, my roommate, has been trying to get her bathroom remodeled for quite some time now. She finally got everything figured out recently--work began last monday. since last tuesday, i have been without a shower and washing machine. fortunately, she got a deal at her gym so that i can go there for a month for only 20 dollars--she paid. i have ACCESS to a shower, problem is, i have been taking my showers in the morning so that my hair doesn't get all weird by the middle of the day. as of tuesday night, i've had to take my showers at night...fine i'll deal. but none the less GRRRR...
the next part of this started thursday... they cut of the electricity to the bathroom, and consequently to my room! THERE ARE NO LIGHTS IN MY ROOM! i thought they were going to fix it friday, i figured one night without lights wasn't bad--i can deal. THEY DIDN"T! i haven't had lights in my room since thursday night. it has been an adventure. it actually isn't a big deal-- i only sleep in there really anyway. granted i get dressed in there in the morning and undressed at night, but lights aren't needed to get undressed and the sun is up in the morning.
oh well-- will be using the gym as an excuse to get really in shape and then when the membership ends i will hopefully be able to do the little things just to maintain (yeah right, but a dream is a dream..)
so there are my stories. life has been generally good. i'm making friends here with people in the office and by consequent, their friends. so, not too shabby. i've gone to see some concerts--no i can't tell you the names, i'd never heard of any of them myself--but they've been fun, and cheap! this weekend was nice--i got to see the corpse bride by tim burton (good, but not as good as the nightmare before Christmas) and i got to see some cool people from seattle--aurora, phuong, and blake. we went to this place called Teaism--closest thing to seattle out here, and then to the Melting Pot for a fondue dessert. yummy... i'm really starting to like the city.
work has been getting slightly more interesting as time goes on. i've dropped a few bills at the cloak room, done some capitol building tours, picked up susan, done some research for the foreign affairs LA, and put together some briefing notebooks. yeah, that's the laundry list of my duties that are interesting. the rest are rather clerical and meh. which is one reason you are getting this now as opposed to later tonight.
anywho, i'm off to go pretend to be important! have a lovely day/evening..what you will... and once again, if you know of anyone who wants to hear this stuff--either fwd it or tell me their addy and i'll add them. and if you don't want it--either delete it or face my wrath!! ;P
bisous
jen :)
