So you want to know about my internship eh? (and even if you don't, too bad... you are getting this email. however, if you would like to unsubscribe, sent me a letter with 10 dollars and a one page essay explaining the current relationship between Tibet and China ;) ...)
Anywho, the people I work with are all pretty nice and accommodating seeing as though I'm still figuring things out as I go. I have been, well, to put it nicely, at the office's beck and call…
Well, this week i ended up going to pick up CT's wife (that's what they call the senator!) pretty much on my own, twice! Each time i had one of the other two interns with me, so they could see where to go. I did it alright except for the entrance to the stupid tunnel out of DC--both times i had to go around the block to go back and get the turn! hehe oh well, the rest of the trip went smoothly. But let me tell you, DC drivers are CRAZY! they don't use blinkers and they don't let you in--you litteraly have to force yourself into where you want to go. talk about defensive driving! i'm getting more comfortable with it now though, which is good, cause i don't think they will let me have someone else come with me next time! Susan, is really nice and funny, plus she drive back. All in all the Susan pickups are nice--i get out of the office, i get to drive a NEW mustang, and yeah. Last week was when John (one of the staff assistants) took Betsy (one of the interns) and i out on our first Susan pickup, and let me tell you, the only thing that scared me when he did take us out (and still is the only thing that scares me) is suburban hell. Yes, the senator and his wife live in suburban hell-- i will get lost there one day, i'm sure. so far so good though. tons of stupid little roads that curve and get lost don't meet up.
another fun thing i got to do the other day was to drop a bill at the cloak room. it was crazy to see senators up close and personal.
i also had to give my first tour alone this week. during that one we got to see a roll call and a vote! it was nuts to think that i saw ted kennedy, hilary clinton, john kerry, CT, mike enzi, john mccain, patty murray, and maria cantwell just milling around down there on the floor. (we were up in the gallary) they asked good questions that i made up some answers to... i really need to learn the facts, although making up stuff was rather liberating! i think i've finally figured out the different routes in there though. its taken some time, but i think i know my way around the capitol...i hope... i went on one earlier this week with Amy (the other intern) and felt rather turned around but now i think i'm getting my way figured out.
and the rest of my update ends with me saying that i have a cold...evil! its not bad... yet (knock on wood) and i have been drinking tons of OJ and taking dristan cause its the only meds they have here. i feel slightly better this morning. yesterday i came home and just relaxed and didn't do much. i think that helped.
anywho, i must be off to go shopping--i have very little food left! oh yeah, and do laundry! hope you have a good weekend :) and sorry to my dear aunt who has to read some of this stuff for the second time around! oh, and once again--feel free to share with people who might care or who you really just want to annoy! ;)
bisous
