"Luck" from Milch and Mann.

Dec 14, 2011 00:35

Drive-by rec of the brilliant new HBO pilot Luck, which is written by David Milch (Deadwood) and directed by Michael Mann (Miami Vice, Public Enemies). As if those two names weren't enough to recommend it, it's a drama centred around the world of horse-racing and gambling, and starring:

Dustin Hoffman
Dennis Farina
Kerry Condon
John Ortiz
Nick Nolte
Michael Gambon
Ian Hart
Richard Kind
Kevin Dunn
Ritchie Coster
Tom Payne with a very respectable Cajun accent
Jason Gedrick, who I spent the whole pilot thinking was Matthew Settle from Gossip Girl

not to mention PATRICK J. ADAMS (from Suits), which I was not expecting, but OMG. He has no scenes in the pilot, but features quite heavily in the Season 1 promo, mostly in scenes with Hoffman. Adams describes his role of Nathan Israel as "a financial prodigy...a baby shark in a sea of great whites."

The first episode has been released, although the series doesn't premiere proper until January, and can be found in the usual place online.
