1. Cosmetic samples are <3333. I shop pretty regularly at Shu Uemura, and they give the most generous samples for their skincare range: cleaning oil, lotions, serums, moisturisers, all in little tubes or plastic bottles, perfect for long flights or short trips away. Beats those one-use tear open samples any day. Dior and Chanel also give away sample-sized versions of their foundations/powders, which are also good for cutting down the weight of your hand luggage.
2. Always pack a muesli bar or something to eat on an over-night flight. Unless you're travelling in first/business class, in which case feel free to indulge in the complimentary snacks and alcohol.
3. Wear comfortable, slip-on shoes and don't go without socks if you're flying for more than a couple of hours. Plane cabins can be quite chilly, plus you don't want to smell your own (or anybody else's) dirty feet.
4. Cabin air is cool and low in humidity, probably for reasons of sanitation. Carry lip balm and hand moisturiser if you are prone to dry skin, and don't wear contact lenses if it's a long flight because they can become stiff and uncomfortable with the long exposure to air conditioning.
What are your must-do's when flying?
