First photos from The Magic Flute, Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Mozart's opera. The adapted screenplay is by Stephen Fry. [imdb]

High res stills from The Black Dahlia. [imdb]

An interview with David Wain, director of The Ten, a series of vignettes based on the ten commandments. The film stars, to name just a few, Jessica Alba, Adam Brody, Justin Theroux, Paul Rudd, Famke Janssen, Gretchen Mol, Winona Ryder, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, and Liev Schreiber. (Suicide Girls) [imdb]

Vincent Cassel (wheee!) has been cast in David Cronenberg's next, Eastern Promises. He joins Naomi Watts and Viggo Mortensen. (Coming Soon) [imdb]

The first three minutes of The Covenant (aka The Craft for guys) has been added to the official site. It's mostly credits, and it starts exactly like Underworld. But I'll probably end up seeing this when I can get it on DVD. I just am that lame. *sigh* [imdb]

Trust a Chinese film trailer to be so deliberately vague: it's either because the plot is irrelevant and you really don't care anyway because you're just going to see it for the art production (a la House of Flying Daggers), or it's because the plot is so convoluted and intricate that it would be only cheating to try and tell it in a teaser (Hero). Curse of the Golden Flower is by Zhang Yimou, who directed both the above named films, and it Stars (the capital letter is warranted, trust me) Chow Yun-Fat and Gong Li. See the lavish trailer here. [imdb]

There is an officially sanctioned sequel to Peter Pan being published? What the hell?

Douglas Wolk (Salon) reviews Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie's Lost Girls: Another way of putting it is that it's a really advanced version of slash fiction, a sort of "I Am Curiouser and Curiouser."

Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz has died. He won the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1988, the first Arab to do so, and was the author of The Cairo Trilogy. He was 94.
