don't blame the pretty lady

Um, do all the pages look a little weird to you guys? Like the post entry page, etc.?

Anyway.

Yesterday I finished American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang because I love it. Seriously. And to be entirely honest, it's not just because it's an awesome, honest, not-contrived story about being an Asian-American kid growing up. (Although I have to admit, it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more relevant and less awful than Woman Warrior, etc.) It's actually just because the storytelling is such a treat. It's been so long since I read a story whose storytelling genuinely excited and delighted me as much as watching American Born Chinese come together.

I also just about polished off The City of Ember, though this was strictly because I was trying to stay awake and I wanted to know how it was going to end, though I was never in any doubt as to how the story would unfold. *shrugs*

This morning I finished The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn, which was actually surprisingly good. I skimmed a good portion of it, since it's half-adventure story half-information-about-feudal-Japan, but it was very entertaining, but not so over-the-top that I found that I had to keep reading for my own sanity.

THINGS THAT I RANTED ABOUT THAT I HAVE SINCE PURSUED:

1) Okay so I actually just can't use the payroll system on my computer, because they designed it for the most recent version of the Mac OS and didn't make it at all backwards compatible. My computer is less than 2 years old, this is kind of ridiculous. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this.
2) I FINALLY got my hotel reservation confirmation from the hotel via the AX third party system, but for some reason I only got the confirmation for ONE of the rooms and not the other. I also received it at 3AM the MORNING OF THE LAST DAY TO CANCEL. I called and they managed to work around to cancel both rooms, and I was very thankful, but also very peeved.

nerdish, I'm very sorry about your present. I don't know what's going on since the store hasn't responded to me and I'll have to contact PayPal to get my money back and find you another present. And until this gets cleared up, no one else can get their presents. One because I'm neurotic, two because I'm kind of on limited funds until my classes start late next month.

And I'm still having personal crises, but whatever. Crying myself to sleep is healthy, I'm sure, and it makes me so exhausted I fall asleep really easily when I'm done!

politics, ax, books, friends, money, japan, well that's annoying, work, internets, shopping, computer, technology, real life
