So most of you either missed or ignored this rant last night, but I'm going to reiterate it for the benefit of my sanity.
TPR just switched to a new online payroll system, which, considering that we were submitting Excel timesheets via email before, seems like a much better idea. Of course, rollout was delayed a couple times, and we're in its second week of use now. All of the emails we receive emphasize how weird the system is, but how much more convenient it'll be for us in the long run. Also, though, they emphasize how difficult it is to do back-pay, so we have to submit our timesheets on time.
Fair enough, right?
1) The new payroll system is weekly. I have never had a weekly payroll system before, and I can't see why we can't have bi-weekly, as most businesses (in my experience) do. A weekly system is far more likely to have people running late - especially when the deadline for submission on the e-system is 11:59 Thursday night.
2) Why would you go with a system you acknowledge is weird? Not just transitionally weird, but fundamentally weird? That just seems silly.
3) Where are the FAQ pages? Troubleshooting? I ran into a lot of trouble last night trying to just get to the page where I could put in time for Sunday. This is the other problem with weekly - if there are technical difficulties, it's that much less time to fix them. But I could not, anywhere, find basic FAQs to see if what I was encountering was a common problem, a problem with my browser, JAVA, or the system itself.
Thankfully we're still turning in Excel timesheets to verify that the system is working correctly, so hopefully I get paid for Sunday (on time) even though I can't get into the system, and it's not supposed to be fixed until tomorrow morning.
I'm still a little peeved by the whole procedure - which involved me having to ask someone to log in for me to see if they got the same problems - but since I've heard back from the company and there's absolutely jack shit I can do about my inability to log my hours, I'm going to brush it off as Not My Problem right now and go back to cleaning my apartment.
