...is be able to record HDTV on my media center.
I was sort of able to record as it is, but the video was somewhat choppy. I read somewhere that the video card might not have enough throughput to display HD video, so I found a cheap graphics card (ATI X1300) online at TigerDirect a couple months ago. I had it sent home because 'what could possibly go wrong?'
Apparently some of the ATI graphics cards clash with the GX260 computers, including the card I purchased. It's past the 30 day return window, so that's not an option.
I'm now wondering if I should (a) buy a new P4 motherboard and transfer the processor, memory, etc to my old (but way cooler) media center case, or (b) look into another graphics card, even though I can't find one that's new enough and cheap enough to make it worth my while, (c) try to sell a bunch of my current computers and use that money to buy a new computer to start from scratch, (d) something else...
I'm also worried that a new graphics card, combined with 2 tuners plus an HD tuner might be a little strenuous for a built-in Dell Power supply (I think 250 W?) but I can't replace it with a standard supply 'cause Dell is stupid...
For now, I've got the HDTV card in my parents computer; it's just amazing to watch. Sorta wish I could enjoy the same thing.
It's just frustrating.
