cats and taxes

Today we did our taxes (mostly). Two or three forms are missing, so we haven't filed yet. Still. Since nothing in the world is certain beyond death and taxes, it's nice to get the annual chore out of the way. Also we get a rebate (surprise!) so it's nice to have that turn up sooner rather than later. In terrifying tax related news, it turns out we spent more than half of our income last year on health care. The best part is, we haven't even seen bills for anything since September, so there will be even more health care expenses for last year that will get paid sometime this year (including 3 days in the hospital and having my appendix out and pregnancy stuff). Oy. Someone had better get some decent universal health care going and soon!

Cats should really count as a dependent on your taxes, with 5 cats equaling one child. They take up a lot of funds, need a lot of attention, and expensive food and litter and medical care. I think our cat's purr is broken. She sounds so weird! This morning she sounded halfway between a little kid imitating a cat's purr and a real purr, or the car from the Jettsons. Sonja is always murping at us too - I'm not sure she ever meows, or even could. it's a strange combination that sounds the most like a bird chirping. Maybe it's a hunting adaptation so she could sneak up on birds? Except she hunts her toys like she's mousing... odd cat. very odd.
