Confessions of a Deliriously Happy Voter

Screw this. I'm not going to hide from political talk, especially because I have nothing negative to say anyway. Only squee.

I just can't contain it, and I can't pretend otherwise: I am ridiculously, ridiculously happy about the outcome of this election. I who posted before about my political apathy did look into the candidates and did make my choice and I now feel happier and more excited about this election than any other election I have ever experienced before.

I can't even define the excitement. And I can't even tell you how many times I've had goosebumps on my arms or chills down my back or tears come to my eyes just thinking of this historic occasion. I can't even tell you how fast my heart beat at his acceptance speech, as he stirred mind and heart with the momentum of the past and the hope of the future. And I can't quite describe the flutter in my heart when I see the warmth of his family: the way husband and wife look at each other, the way the children beam and prattle on about the Disney Channel.

And while I dare not speak for Him, I personally think God smiles that we chose a man of personal integrity and fidelity, a sincere man committed to his family and to his ideals and to his nation, a man who seeks to rally and to unify and inspire people's hearts in the midst of suffering. I think that He who ordained His people long ago to set aside a portion of their farms for the poor smiles that we chose someone who shares His heart for the poor, for the widow and the orphan. I think that He's smiling that we chose someone who won't force others to live a certain way, but give them freedom of desire, thought, and choice.

Have you seen the cartoon of the Lincoln statue fist bumping Obama? "Rosa sat so Martin could walk, so Obama could run, so our children can fly." I couldn't possibly say it better than that. I think God is proud of us for choosing for ourselves a leader from a people once oppressed and downtrodden, once viewed as less than human; I think He's proud that we're closer than before in recognizing that all humanity is more glorious and more invaluable than the starry cosmos itself, as the psalmist penned many ages ago.

I'll be praying for you, President Obama. May you be blessed beyond measure.
