Title: The Kid Who Couldn't Catch A Break
Author: Celia (apathyxurgency)
Summary: Pool mayhem. Archie's innocence being destroyed almost. Visually, anyway. Not physically.
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: This is fiction!
Author's Notes: Lol what sparked my inspiration for this story in the first place was the simple image of Michael throwing David into a pool. Then, I sort of took did background leading up to that. This is the product of staying up until 4AM in a weird zombie like state. Oh and, I wrote in first person again! But this time, Michael's point of view. After writing as him, and then looking how I wrote David in my other contest entry, I feel like I had an easier time writing Michael. Comments and/or criticism are appreciated! <3

Atlantic City sure was...different!
To clarify: our morning to our afternoon in particular. Let me explain.

We arrived there around two or three in the morning. The bus driver's brought us to the Trump Taj Mahal. A whole floor was rented out for the ten of us, which was so nice! The whole morning was sort of the usual. Once they hooked us up with our keycards, we all dispersed into our own rooms. Except for David and I, of course. The two of us hurried to our assigned room. (We always room together. It's sort of a tradition). We were raging, for absolutely no reason. I mean, it was like three AM for crying out loud! How were we so hyper? We couldn't fall asleep for the longest time. We rented and watched Grease. I love that movie. David suggested that our dance for the show that night could be a snippet of the, "You're The One That I Want" number. The idea was most appropriate, and so I agreed to it.

After the movie, we both climbed into our own beds, and talked until we passed out. We tend to do that a lot. This dates back to when we roomed together on Idol. We('ve) literally talk(ed) about everything. And honestly, it has brought us closer.

Anyway, so we fell asleep.
But then later in the morning, Archie woke us up earlier than expected. God, it was so horrible. Saying he was 'disturbed' by the situation in front of him was probably an understatement.
David had climbed into my bed at some point. I don't know when. I wasn't even aware of it until I had woken up. His arm was slung around my waist, and I could feel his breath tickle the back of my neck. That's how close we were.
It wouldn't have looked half as horrible if we both weren't shirtless. Yeah, I believe that factor added to the stunned look on Archuleta's face.

"Mike?...Cook?...um...oh gosh.."
"What's up, Arch?.." I mumbled. My eyelids slowly began to flutter open. "What's wrong?"
"Well...I was coming to wake you guys up...but.."
"But what..." I whispered. I went to shift a little, noticing a bit of weight around my hip. I lifted the blankets up to see what was restricting me. My stomach plummeted. I realized it was David's arm over me. His legs tangled with mine. His chest, bare, flush against my bare back. My eyes widened, as I looked to the younger David.
"This really isn't what you think, mate." I nervously told him.
"I won't say anything...you know...if it really is what I think."
I unintentionally chuckled. "Thank you."
"Yeah."
I yawned, and quickly changed the subject. "..So why is everyone up already?"
"They closed the in-door pool off for just the ten of us."

I woke David up shortly after Archuleta left. He was mortified when I told him that we had been walked in on. He apologized for climbing into my bed.

"Oh my God, WHAT?! Michael I am so sorry." David shrieked, ripping the covers off of us. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed and sat there. I rolled onto my back and leaned on my elbows. He turned to look at me as I spoke.
"He saw us, mate. Shirtless, and totally cuddling."
"Holy crap.."
"Don't worry. He said he'd keep it on the down-low."
"Okay..."
"Yeah. So hey why are you in my bed, anyway?" I questioned.
"I woke up, and I don't know. I didn't like laying there alone." He said, pointing to his empty bed.
I grinned. "I see. Well next time maybe give me a little notice? So someone doesn't catch us canoodling?"
David snorted, and scrunched his face up the way he always does when he laughed much too hard. "Canoodling? Mike, I spooned you. I wasn't secretly sexing you while you were asleep."
I leaned up and ruffled his hair. "Close enough, but whatever."

Once we were up and out of (my) bed, we got ready and grabbed our neccessities from our suitcases that we lugged in this morning.

Everyone else had been down at the pool when we arrived. I was almost expecting an awkward silence when they saw us, but it became clear that Archie kept it quiet.
"Guys! The pool is heated!" Carly shouted. She was sitting next to Chikezie on the cement, both their legs dangling in the water. The rest of the girls were lounging on the chairs lined up along the left side of the pool. Jason and Archie were jumping into the water, seeing who could perform the best cannonball.
"Sorry we're late, gang." I said, making my way over to the steps. I wanted to feel the water. David went in the other direction, taking a seat next to Ramiele. I pulled my shirt up and over my head and dropped it on the ground. I then dipped my toes into the water. It felt fantastic. It was really warm like Carly mentioned. I stood atop the steps, and literally went down each one without stopping. There was no need to adjust to the temperature. "Davey, come in. The water is lovely." I called out.
"Nah...I'm okay." He muttered.
"Oh come on. We aren't going to be here all day, you know. Come swim!"
"No really, Mike. I'm okay." He insisted. I shook my head and submerged myself completely. I sat on the floor of the pool, and opened my eyes for a few seconds. It burned more than I had anticipated, which sent me up to the surface to rapidly rub my eyes. Water trickled from my hair onto my body. I shivered a little. The cool air hitting my skin quickly diminished the warmth from the water. I looked at David. He was staring at me. I peered around at everybody. No one else was looking at me in this particular moment. I locked eyes with David again, and then, I flipped my hair back all sexy-like. David's mouth fell open a little. I beckoned him with my finger, whilst raising my eyebrows up and down a few times. Oh, and I also had this sly smirk strewn across my features.
David cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow. I pressed my hands together, and mouthed, "Please?"
He closed his eyes and shook his head. I pouted, emphasizing my bottom lip as much as possible. David smiled, and whispered 'no'. I rolled my eyes, and turned back to the steps. I got out of the water, leaving my shirt on the ground. I rounded the first corner of the pool, searching for something to dry myself off with. I spotted towels bundled up on a counter ledge behind a few tables, farther back in the room. I quickly paced over, my arms wrapped around my torso. I picked up the first towel, and quickly unrolled it. I brought it over my shoulders. David saw me making my way back over, and patted the seat next to his. I took it happily.
"Why won't you swim?" I asked him. I placed the towel over my head and quickly dried my hair.
"I just don't feel like it right now."
"Shame we're only here one day."
"I know...I'm sure there will be more pools to swim in though, Michael."
"Yeah, yeah. But who knows how many of those pools will be heated!" I exclaimed.
He ignored me, and watched intently as Jason and Archuleta raced back and forth in the deep end.

After a while, the pool had been abandoned. We were all sitting, just talking about random things. We only had about an hour before we had to head back to the hotel rooms to grab our belongings. Boardwalk Hall would then be our next destination.

David's phone blared, the ringer echoing off of the walls.
"Ah. My mom!" He smiled, ear to ear. He stood up and walked over to one of the tables. "Hey mom!" He exclaimed after answering the call.
I waited for him to hang up before approaching him.
"Are you okay? You've been very weird all afternoon. Abnormally quiet, too."
He tensed a little when I spoke. Probably because I lurked up behind him, unnoticed.
David faced me. "I'm alright. I just...you know how I feel about taking my shirt off in front of everyone." He turned back to the table to play nervously with his phone.
I clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Who said you had to take your shirt off?"
He shrugged silently. Taking that as my cue, I wrapped my arms around him from behind. He dropped the cell phone abruptly on the table and squirmed. I got a better grip on him and turned both of us around, facing the pool.
"What are you doing?!" He shouted fearfully.
"Nothing." I grunted, moving my arms down more around David's torso. He tried to fight me off, but failed epically. I lifted him off the ground, resisting the blows he was taking to my arms.
"MICHAEL STOP! NO! NO! NO!" David shrieked in my arms flailing like some wild animal. At this point, everybody was watching. Absurd laughs and cackles escaped their lungs.
"You're going in, David." I calmly whispered in his ear. I was at the edge of the pool now, the water glistening beneath us.
He pleaded even more intensely with me. "NO PLEASE! DON'T DO- SHITTT!"
I let him go. And he fell into the pool, those being his last words. He made a large splash, floating to the bottom. T-shirt and all. I crossed my arms and waited for him to come back up for air.
"You're an ass, you know that Michael?" He spat out angrily. He brought his arm back and then quickly thrusted it forward, splashing me with water.
"Oh, but you love me!"
"Whatever." He snapped. He doggy-paddled over to the concrete ledge, and lifted his whole upper-body out of the pool. He threw a knee over the side, and crawled out onto the solid ground.
"You love it." I giggled. "Stop acting so bitter."
"No. I'm cold."
"Don't lie to me, mate. You want to swim around in this pool with me and everyone else. And you know it."
"Oh yeah? Is that what you think?..." He trailed off. David was on his feet now, and coming closer to me. I didn't move. He walked behind me. I stayed in place, my eyes following his every gesture. He pressed two hands against my back, and began forcefully pushing me towards the pool. I wouldn't budge.
"Come on, man. Cooperate please?" He whispered. I laughed. Then, I turned, which caused him to lose his balance. I grabbed his left wrist to steady him, and then yanked him with everything I had in me. The two of us, a heap of half naked men, spilled into the water, creating a gigantic splash. David had landed on top of me, and when we were completely immersed, I opened my eyes to see his face only inches in front of mine. His eyes were tightly closed. As bad as the water scolded my eyes, I used this moment to press a single kiss to David's lips. His eyes jerked opened immediately. He so taken aback, that he had opened his mouth under water and gulped in a large sum of chlorinated liquid. I pushed him up with my arms, and came up only seconds after he hit the surface. He coughed hard to get the water out of his lungs.
Everybody else was up and leaping into the pool already.
David looked at me, almost in awe. I smirked, and poked him. "I win."
"Not true." He said confidently. He dashed as fast as possible to the side of the pool and only got himself up a little before I grabbed him around the waist and threw him back into the water. He had a smile on his face when he came back up for air. "Okay. You do win, Johns."
I smirked, and in all my glory, did a fist pump.

We were rounded up about an hour after that victorious moment. I grabbed my shirt from where I had left it, and slung it over my shoulder.
David and I took the elevator up to our floor alone.

"Michael?" He asked quietly.
"Yes?" I responded.
"That kiss...was so unexpected."
I looked at him. "You think so?"
He nodded.
"That whole moment...I don't know it just seemed kind of perfect and I wasn't about to pass it up. You know me. I'm the King of cliche." I told im.
David threw me a crooked grin. I just sort of returned that look with a smile, not having anything witty to follow up with. Before I could even think about making a move, he began to walk towards me, until I was backed up against the wall completely. He slid his hand around the back of my neck, and pulled me into a kiss. I tangled my fingers in his hair, pulling him closer. This certainly escolated faster than I had thought it would. David took my lower lip between his teeth, eliciting a groan from deep down in my throat.
He pecked my lips once, and looked me in the eyes. "You teased me with that pout of yours earlier...these lips...and you thought I'd let you get away with that?"
"Naturally."
"What were you thinking?" He whispered.

Thinking about this now, I don't even remember the elevator coming to a hault. But it did. And we were going at it still when the doors opened.

David pulled away, leaving me a little stunned. He trailed his way down to my neck and began to nip at my tender flesh. Each time he did so, I practically screamed. Evidently, David enjoyed that, and as proof he did it just as hard every time. I dropped my hands to the hem of his shirt, and ran my fingers under the light cotton. My hands slid around his bare torso, stopping at the small of his back. His skin felt so cold against my warm hands. As he continued to foment groans of pleasure from my throat, I pulled him as close to me as I possibly could.
"We need to stop meeting like this..."
My eyes blasted open. Little Archuleta was standing there. He had that same 'disturbed' look on his face that I had seen this morning. Except it was twenty times worse. I tore my hands from David's body, and dropped my arms back at my sides. David removed his mouth from my neck just as quickly, and spun around to see the youngest of us all. "Oh God..."
"Gosh...you guys...are you doing this on purpose to mess with me? Is this a prank?"
"No. On both accounts." I said, smiling slightly. Cook ran a hand over his face.
"Oh...gosh...well okay. Um. Just. I won't say a thing." He muttered.
"You better not, David. I know where you sleep."
Judging by the serious look on his face, I could tell he wasn't very appreciative of my awkward way of lightening the mood.
The doors began to shut, but Archie stuck an arm out to stop them from closing. He then walked in after we exited, and stood in the center of the floor.

Once the doors had completely shut, we began to look for our hotel room.
The hilarity ended there...for the evening, anyway.

David searched his pockets for the keycard. "I think we may have actually traumatized him this time."
"Yeah. The poor kid. He can never catch a break when we're around."
"Like ever."
"Yeahhh..." I mumbled.
"Yeahhh..." David agreed.
We both stopped dead in our tracks, and looked at each other.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" I asked.
"If what you are thinking is that we should sneak into Archie's bunk tonight and totally have him walk in on us making out, then yes. I am infact thinking what you are thinking."
I pointed at him. "I'll see you in his bunk at 12:30 sharp?"
"It's a deal."
