There's something to be said for pervasive brand identity: when Google introduced online maps, they just called it Google Maps, and you have the same simple naming scheme for Yahoo Maps and MSN Live Maps.

If you were doing the same thing as a startup, it'd probably have some stupid Web 2.0 name like mapuu or mappr or maybe something completely whimsical like zaboom just so people can remember the name. Maybe these kinds of companies exist solely to get bought out and rebranded into the next Google/Yahoo/Microsoft product.
