[Naturally, as video posts are wont to do, the picture flickers on to reveal a store strewn with Christmas-themed decor. You name in, they've got it. In the frame, Shouryuu, Youko, and Keiki seem to be browsing the shelves in front of them that are lined with various tree ornaments. Youko appears to be the one doing most of the shopping, however, considering the other two are carrying enough bags to the point they both are starting to resemble some sort of pack animal. Keiki is obviously unamused by the whole affair, his sighing becoming an almost timed routine, predictable almost to the second, while Shouryuu appears to be exactly the opposite.]
So, let me get see if I'm getting this right. We decorate this tree of yours, and it's tradition to put gifts under it as a sign of good-will, appreciation, or what have you?
[Youko nods, pulling a few ornaments off the shelf to inspect, before putting them back after a few moment's deliberation.] Yeah. Pretty much. People usually unwrap them Christmas morning.
[Shouryuu laughs.] Doesn't sound much different from from the palace's Riboku to me. Wrap a few ribbons on the tree's branches, wish for what you want. Wait to see if you've been good enough to get what you prayed for.
[Keiki sighs deeply, but says nothing. Youko, surprisingly, follows suit. Shouryuu hardly seems to notice, however, plucking a small ornament of a rat covered in red holiday tinsel from the shelves with his free hand, holding it up.] In fact, you could wish for our favorite hanjuu. Or even just--
[If anything, Keiki's sigh seems to deepen, rife with unsaid exasperation. If the kirin's face wasn't so accustomed to being stoicly blank, perhaps he would have been scowling.] The kingdom's Riboku is not for selfish personal use. It is only to be used in times of greatest need. Furthermore--
[Youko cuts him off.] It isn't like you can't pray to a Riboku to receive that, anyway. Or, [she added in a sort of preemptive strike], for any hanjuu children, either.
[Shouryuu chuckles.] Maybe not children, but you certainly can pray for more hanjuu citizens, you know. In the name of promoting tolerance and diversity among the people, of course. Not that bad of an idea, really.
