do you ever see
that hidden gleam in my eyes?
my soft gaze, watching
not appraising your worth
but valueing your presence
the wild fire burning
behind mild brown

do you ever hear
my unspoken words?
that twitch of my lips
is not scheming lies
it's my secrets, fighting out
i would tell you everything
if only you would ask

do you ever catch
that hesitation to my step?
the quiet desperation
of knowing no path
the blinded fool
lost to the dark
praying for a guide

do you ever feel
my shock at your touch?
not surprised that you would
but surprised that you did
all the while terrified
not of what could happen
but of what will

do you ever know
what you mean to me?
you are my hope, my love
the light burning bright
that i have followed
all my life

you have brought me through
when all the world
seemed against me
and you have seen me through
my darkest hours
and fiercest storms

you are my everything
i am nothing without you
a sad, empty heart
please
don't try to understand
just open your heart to me
and shelter me
from myself
as you always have
without ever knowing
