Poem - paradise found

Sep 25, 2005 16:01

those that once bore my wrath
shall forever have my pity
and my thanks

for in the devastation they wrought
and the imprisonment of my soul
they planted the seed of freedom

for now, i suffer
any god above, or demon below may see
the terrible price of each day

but each shuddering breath
bears me that much closer
to my sacred release

one day, i shall cast off these chains
dragging about my heart
and with new wings, i shall take flight

no other soul may ever know
the true beauty and meaning of love
as i may, now

no other soul may ever feel
the sweet release i shall claim
as my birthright, and prize

if i could set forth such a hint
of the sweet wine that only i shall taste
theirs then would be the prison

for, someday
they shall grow old, and grow apart
as I lay in my love's forgiving embrace
forgetting all the trespasses that brought me here
to know that which they never shall

this lifetime, spent in mourning
is but a trifle to pay
for the enormity of the gift

i thank thee now, then
for as i take my lover's hand
and whisper "forever" with my eyes
you all shall be forever lost
as i step over the threshold
into my paradise found
at last
