I've been feeling really torn lately because of all the comments that seem to indicate that all the JT fans hate Dennis Cooper now, and I'm sorry, but I don't. I don't have to agree with what he's been saying to still love his work. I think that a writer I admire could do something truly despicable - murder someone, say, or worse - and while I ( Read more... )

I agree with you on that fully, in fact I'd prolly not get along with a LOT of the artists I admire and on the other end of the spectrum some of the art my loved ones make.. well... they are wonderful PEOPLE anyway :)

I don't hate Cooper, I just don't think I'll read another of his books. I read My Loose Thread and it was merely alittle to disturbing for me and I'm trying to get away from that type of work.

I haven't even been paying attention to what's going on. I will always read Cooper. He has an exquisitely demented way with words, I can't get enough!

I think Dennis Cooper is a dickwad, but I still like his work. It's like he's a type of pathetic genius, who has this incredible talent and ability but his circumstances and insecurities have turned him into a pathetic little shit. I mean one of his reasons for not believing JT was JT was that when they met JT didn't absolutely-wet-his-pants for Dennis, as Dennis thought he should/would upon meeting him.

Just like if JT was really a woman impersonating a young hustler, the work would not lose any of it's brilliance. (I don't really believe that, I'm just saying that if it was true, I wouldn't care.)

I don't think it should turn into a boycott, though, because we as an audience lose-out when we judge art through our liking or disliking of the artist. Some artists, just like any other mortals, can be immensely disappointing.
