so i still don't have power. it's been out since tuesday at 6pmish? that sounds about right. i've been depending upon the kindness of my friend/creative writing workshop wife, who lives in the quarter.

apparently the quarter never lost power. so, learned: the quarter is absolute crap for regular life (no parking, ridic expensive, it stinks, it's noisy, etc.) but marvelous for crises. and no splitting the difference and living in the marigny or the treme. adjacent neighborhoods they may be, but they ain't got power yet either, not mostly.

none of which changes the fact that i have no power

quick thing: IT DIDN'T FLOOD YOU GUYS, JESUS CHRIST WHAT ARE THEY TELLING YOU. it rained, yes, and winded, yes. and if it had rained a lot, it would've flooded. it's flooded before. but so far as i know, there was barely an accumulated puddle. admittedly i haven't gone all around the town, but i drove by a patch that always seems to accumulate water (city park by lakeview) and yeah, they've got standing water a few days later. but NOBODY FLOODED, THIS ISN'T KATRINA, WHAT THE SHIT. sorry, but i gotta get that out. better here than on facebook, which actually gets read, and by people who don't know salty dense. i'm just saying. it's frustrating because it makes me wonder if people ever really did understand katrina. the hurricane fucked things up hurricane-style. honestly? probably to the level we're at in town right now. ok, maybe more damage because more winds. but the ginormufucking storm surge broke concrete structures. did you hear about isaac breaking any concrete structures? maybe sending a barge into a concrete structure, thus breaking it and causing an unstoppable wall of water to sweep away homes and people? no? well, that was katrina. it shouldn't even maybe be called "hurricane," because that distracts really stupid people into thinking that hurricanes always do that. A HURRICANE FLOODED A WHOLE TOWN AND CAUSED UNPRECEDENTED FLOODING. ONCE.

okay, salty soapbox time over. i really just wanted to post at length that i'm fine, that i'm in the quarter where the power and a/c and sweet sweet wi-fi are, and that golly gee i wish the city could restore power sooner, but the whole city (except for the lucky-ducky quarter) got their lights knocked out. that's the problem right now, for almost everybody: the power. a few people had storm damage, wind damage. but the power, that's the thing. my guess is i'll get power back *maybe* sunday, maybe monday. who knows? ohhh the meat juices in my fridge. ew. ew, ew. that *was* a throwback to katrina, actually. oh those rotten meat juices.
