Ok, first things first: I'm employed!!!
I officially start on the company payroll on Monday the 27th. I will finally have insurance and while I still will not be earning what I should, I will be making enough to get the bills paid and hopefully, stash a little away in savings each week so that I can get us a decent computer.
This is just the cherry on a very wonderful weekend. Friday night we had a lovely evening at home compete with nice meal, cuddling and TV. Saturday we got up at a decent hour and had a light breakfast then watched some stuff from the DVR until it was time to go run errands. We then did some grocery shopping and picked up a few things on salhere and there.
That evening we met up with
defixione at Birdy's for the AIM benefit show. While the turnout for the show was sparse (the three of us were pretty much half of the peoplel in attendance who were not working or participating in the show somehow), the show was really fun. The first band sucked (Weeds of Eden) so we played Fluxx while they were on but then Arminta & Blaq Lilly took the stage and blew the night away. The other bands were good but this was really a hard act to follow. The set by Nashville,TX was good but their lead singer was AWOL so it wasn't them at their best. However, the next to the last band was really worth staying around for. They were Kevin Mohl and The Burning Sensation. They were wonderfully reminiscent of Barenaked Ladies. I heard a song of theirs on the radio on my way home Friday night and it made me really look forward to the show. They certainly did not dissapoint.
Being a benefit show, they were running a raffle for some really sweet prize packages. With the small turnout, I went ahead and bought four tickets. I'm glad I did beacuse I won three prizes including the grand prize of 4 VIP passes to any concert this summer at Verizon (excludes Jimmy Buffet and Dave Mathew's but that's still OK). I really hope there are some good artist scheduled this summer. I can't wait.
defixione won a nice prize package too with a $50.00 gift certificate to Midtown Grill and two movie passes.
Since we stayed pretty late at the show, we slept in and skipped church (we felt like crap anyway and Pastor Pooky was out of town). We will definately be going next week as
beldar is joining the church firmally at the service. So if any of my readers would like to come, we'd love to see you there (transportation can be arranged should it be needed). Again, we watched stuff on the DVR and did some grocery shopping then went to The Alley to see "The Woolgatherer". The acting was fantastic but the script really sucked. It needed editing and a second act as well as the author to look up the terms Foreshadowing and character development. Still, the acting elevated the script quite a bit.
Now for a few comments about various things: We watched the first two episodes of the new Doctor Who series and it totally ROXORS!. I'm so looking forward to the rest of the series. In the mail on Saturday we received a menu from a new Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood: Wonder Wu. With a name like that, it just had to be blogged. Also, I really need to mention something about my job. The building I work in also houses a drug-testing clinic. Therefore, I get the priveledge of walking through the foyer every day and seeing boxes with not only the Biohazard sticker but the following sign:
No drugs or money kept in box. Blood and Urine specimens only.
Well, I think that's about it for now. I will now go back to work.
TTFN!
