OMG! Last night's show was fantastic! I couldn't believe how much I loved it. It was also great to see __kat__ & her beau again. Unfortunately, we didn't get to have dinner with them beforehand but managed to spend some quality time with them just prior to the show and afterwards. Maybe we can spend some more time with them soon. __kat__ did french braid my hair since I wore it down last night and the braid was still in good condition this morning so it's still there. That was an extra special treat. However, I really feel I need to tell you more about the show so here goes with a review:

You wouldn't think that a play dealing with the end of the world would be hilariously funny, yet Deborah Zoe Laufer's new show "End Days" certainly shows that it can be. With characters like Nelson Steinberg, an 11th grader who always dresses up in a white Elvis jumpsuit and Sylvia Stern, who was born Jewish but found Jesus three months ago and now he follows her everywhere helping her do good in the world, hilarity is certainly expected. It seems that Nelson is madly in love with Sylvia's Goth daughter, Rachel because of her amazing abilities in math. He stalks her and ends up becoming part of her family, even helping her father out of the intense depression he has suffered since losing his way of life and purpose in the 9/11 attacks. Add to this that Stephen Hawking becomes a sort of spiritual guide for Rachel plus that Sylvia becomes convinced that the Rapture will occur on Wednesday and you can see where much of the zaniness of the show comes from.

Once again, the casting was so amazing. Martha Jacobs's portrayal showed the religious zealotry and desperate need of her character to believe in a higher purpose even to the detriment of her family. Matthew Roland's portrayals of both Jesus & Stephen Hawking were so funny and perfect that words really can't do them justice. Phebe Taylor and Bill Simmons were excellent as always in keeping their characters grounded and more interesting than the script made them. But the real standout performance of the whole ensemble was Phoenix newcomer Matthew Van Oss who did a great job of showing the vulnerability and sincerity of Nelson's character and his overwhelming need to please and be loved. I thought we were going to lose __kat__ during his Bar Mitzva practice scene.

I can't really say this enough, go see this show. It's a great time and very thought provoking as well as funny. Here's the link to the Phoenix for ticket info.

OK, now back to other things. Not much else happening in my life right now. Just work, TV and cleaning. We're hosting a party later this month as well as preparing for the SuperBowl next month so we've got to get at least the front half of the house cleaned up and put in order. We've made some significant strides on that so far but still have a long way to go.

I hope everyone out there is doing well. I will probably post again later but if not, I'll talk to you tomorrow.

TTFN!

play review, friends
