Wow! yesterday's post got a good response. So, here's today's continuation.
While on our trip, we managed to meet up with several of our LJ friends. Saturday evening
cloudeagle came over and we got to play with his Wii (we are definitely getting one of those for ourselves). We had a nice dinner and conversation with
jo_chan. While in Fayettenam we shared a taco party and perused some amusing used books with
commiepenguin. Of course we also saw
weeji,
halfwaytocrazy &
ambwilson but they're part of
beldar's family so they were the main people we were there to visit. We tried to meet up with some of our other friends but that didn't work out. It was really nice to be able to put faces and voices together with the words we read all the time.
While in the Fort we toured the Fort Smith Visitor's center (also known as Miss Laura's Hello Bordello). I've been there several times when it was being built and when it was a restaurant (the first time with
heathentim) but this was the first time I'd actually visited it as the welcome center. It was a really nice tour. Of course my favorite part was the little model of Judge Parker's Gallows (he was known as "The Hanging Judge") complete with little dolls in nooses. They've also built a little amusement park dedicated to him nearby. It's a strangely macabre idea that somehow works.
Anyway, we had a great time on the trip and I'm really looking forward to next year. The one regret was that on our way up to Fayetteville we stopped at the house of two of my college friends (who are married to each other) and left them a note saying "Hi!". They called back that afternoon but there was a mix-up on the name and I thought it was the chick from the sorority that I was supposed to meet up with so rather than going to see them that evening, we missed out on visiting with them entirely. Hopefully we can reconnect with them through email and maybe see them if we go down this summer. If not, we're definitely working our schedule out to spend time with them next year.
Once we got back there was a message waiting from
ladyofglass letting us know that we were not going to Swamp Allah's place but rather to the CoJ party for New Year's. We have been avoiding their party mainly because we always were ignored and had a pretty lousy time in general at the previous ones but this time we knew that at least two people would be there that we wanted to be with so we sucked it up and went. We really did have a great time. Hopefully it was the first of many more New Year's Eve's with that wonderful couple.
New year's day was spent relaxing and watching TV (we didn't get to see hardly any while we were gone). The Bowl games were good even if Arkansas did lose (although not as badly as Notre Dame did last night). I wish we could have watched the Fiesta Bowl as it went into overtime and sounded like a great game.
Anyway, last night we went to see "Ten Percent of Molly Snyder (Marta Solano)" at
The Phoenix. While the title might be somewhat off-putting, the show was absolutely hilarious. It was about the trials and tribulations of a woman who is trying to get the DMV to correct their mistake on her driver's license. It is truly worth seeing and made me very glad that I didn't have to suffer through all of that when I had my "
sex change" last year.
Well, I guess that's about it for now. Not much happening tonight but tomorrow is the Whoosier Network meeting and Saturday we're skipping CoJ to see "Ten Little Indians" at Beef & Boards (please forgive us
ladyofglass maybe we can get together on Sunday or next week to spend time together to make up for this. More stuff tomorrow.
TTFN!
