They Live in You from The Lion King

Night
And the spirit of life calling
Mamela
And a voice
With the fear of a child asking
Mamela
Trying to find a song that fit Ana was very tricky. I tried to find something that balanced the weight of her duties as messiah with the fact that she is still a child. While browsing through a book of Disney songs (because what says childhood better than Disney?), I came across this song. It's beautiful, haunting, and absolutely appropriate. It comes from the Broadway version of The Lion King, sung by Mustafa to a young Simba ("mamela" is Swahili for "listen). It's such a simple melody, but the words are so evocative of that idea of a greater destiny waiting in the dark beyond, but not one to be feared.
Wait
There's no mountain too great
Hear these words and have faith
Have faith
Although she's only eight, Ana is well aware of the fate that is waiting for her. In some ways, she thinks it's good to know; that way she'll be prepared and will know better what to do. But, like her father, she struggles with the knowledge that if she fails, the world fails. These lyrics sound to me exactly like what Lilith and Tarah tell her: Have faith, and you will triumph.
They live in you, they live in me
They're watching over everything we see
In every creature, in every star
In your reflection
They live in you
Like her father, Ana is not alone in her role. There have been messianic potentials before her, and though they were not called upon to serve, they still had their burdens to bear. When Ana comes of age, she will be able to call upon them for guidance; for now, they simply watch. But the most important observer she has is God, whose presence she often feels when she is need of comfort.
