IceWare: More Eye-candy

BumpTop is a program that overlays itself on top of your desktop, virtually replacing it with a 3D desktop environment that consists of an actual desktop surface and surrounding walls like in an office cubicle. It's fully customizable and offers a multitude of file management features.

The items you see in this screenshot, laid on the desk surface are actual files. Icons can be sized up and down, while image files are immediately turned into thumbnails. Just like on a real desk, you can scatter your files, or spread or stack them. Bumptop puts your organizing skills to the test.

Bumptop goes beyond the desktop and lets you pin items on any of the four walls. Applets like sticky notes and slideshow picture frames can also be added. The modes of bringing life and color to your workplace are virtually limitless.

Clicking on any of the walls shifts the screen so it faces that direction.

Bumptop also interacts flawlessly with Objectdock, allowing you to drag files from Bumptop's surfaces to any of the locations or programs on the dock.

Scrolling your mouse wheel down zooms you away from the desk...

...while scrolling it up lets you zoom in on any item in the environment.

Here, Bumptop features four applets that make tasks easier for you. You can drag your files for uploading to facebook or twitter, or for sending to email or to your local printer.

Right-clicking the desk brings up Bumptop's main context menu. "MORE" unfolds the actual Windows context menu and other options.

By dragging your mouse cursor around items, you can select and perform any of several tasks on them such as:

growing/shrinking the icons
creating a pile
piling similar file types together
arranging icons in a grid

Even piled icons can be shown in a grid view to help you find the file hidden beneath other files. Closing the grid resumes them to a pile.

When you have several piles on your desk and you can't remember which pile contains the file you're looking for, you can choose the "fan out" option to spread your pile across the desk space to see if your file is in there.

A full zoom-in to photo items on the desk or walls activates the slideshow feature. Gesturing your mouse to the right or left makes the camera view jump from one photo to the next in real 3D action!

Clicking on folder shortcuts on the desk expands them into grids that lay out the folder's contents. Clicking on any content opens the file, or an Explorer window.

There you have it! So, will you still settle for an ordinary desktop and a boring wallpaper?
