Kara smiled lazily into the clear sky overhead. It was getting warm again, but not too warm; just enough to make a moody pilot feel cheerful again. She lay flat on her back in the sand near the surf, enjoying the late afternoon sunshine as the water licked at her heels.

Suddenly the water licked a little harder, and Kara raised her head to find two flat eyes gazing back. Or...maybe those were spots, it was hard to tell, not to mention hard to focus when the creatures raised its pincher and snapped it dangerously near her toes.

"Frak!" Kara yelped, scrambling up. The little crab studied her impassively, then scuttled forward to snap again as Kara leapt back. "Stoppit!" Seizing a long stick that had washed up in the surf, Kara returned to the crab armed and ready for whatever the little frakker had in mind. She pointed the stick right between its eyes. Spots. Whatever.

"All right, let's see what you got."
