do you suppose that, waiting hands on eyes, Veronica has gone to hide?

It had been a long day. A long, nervewracking, more than slightly disturbing day, and Veronica Mars never wanted to live another one like it. Unfortunately, the way this island worked, he figured that was a lost cause.

That didn't mean he had to like it. On the bright side, the rain had long since stopped and the sand was dry again, so he took off ( Read more... )

Hunter had yet to meet anyone affected by the genderswitch, or anyone at all that day so he had no idea what was going on. He'd been looking for fruit and climbing random trees, just having a kind of relaxing day. Now he was returning to his shelter by way of the beach, head up turned to watch the stars had he did so.

With his head looking up, he almost didn't notice the person lying there until he was about two feet away and about to step on them. Hunter stopped and and tried to remember if he met this person before. Deciding he had not, Hunter put his hands in his pockets and looked up at the star. "Beautiful aren't they?"

Veronica glanced up at the boy. Unfamiliar, so either he'd never met him before or this was another victim of the switch. "Yeah, they are," he breathed. "And they're so much clearer than back home."

"We have mountains back home, near the beach like this...the stars are just as clear and so beautiful. I'd take my students outside for night training often on nights like this..." Hunter remised about his academy, as it was exactly as he described, on top of a mountain range overlooking the ocean. Better access to storms and all...

Veronica eased up onto his elbows. "Students? How old are you?" Unless he were a TA for a college astronomy course, he looked a bit young to be teaching. "You sound like you really miss it."

Veronica looked up at the newcomer. Demi Moore . . . is surprisingly cute. Oh God, I'm a man. "After a day like this? I so need it."

"Thank God, no." Veronica paused, easing up onto his elbows. "Not that I look all that bad, all things considered, but I enjoy being a girl, thanks." He would resist the urge to sing. He would. "I haven't found any alcohol yet, but I'm not much of a drinker anyway. Who're you usually?"

Chase had been out for a late night walk, heading for a swim. After the surfing 'incident', she had found an actual swimsuit top, wandering out in the bikini top and the denim skirt for the waves. There was something nicer about night swims alone, that Chase never really escaped.

She approached the crashing waves and promptly tripped over something like a log. "Fuck," she cursed soundly, facedown in a lot of sand.

"God damn it!" Veronica yelped, sitting up. "Watch where you're going!" The evening seemed determined to be completely ruined, he thought. And then squinted. "Chase? What are you wearing?"

"Clothing," she groaned, trying to right herself without any embarassing positions. "See, I went surfing earlier in...actual clothing, so this time, I wanted a bathing suit and this was what I found."

She winced slightly, still trying to get untangled and straight, smiling nervously. "Thought I'd be alone," Chase confessed, finally managing to get straight and blinked, looking right up into Veronica's eyes.

Oh, damn it.

That damned urge for a man was still there, not cured by the endless flirting with Johnny.

Veronica looked warily back. "So did I. I, er, I guess that works for swimming. I'm not sure denim's the best plan, but, you know." Well, this was strangely awkward.
