"I'd like to thank you all for coming out. This has been--" I laughed, "--an amazing, unforgettable, terrifying, giddy-making day, and it's because you are all here. This wouldn't be the day it was without my friends here. So, thank you."
I took a deep breath. "But there are some people who should be here today and who aren't. They've been important in my life, and in Zell's life. We've met some of them before coming here, and we met some of them here. And we've lost far too many. I'm thinking of Lucy, Riku, Pacey, Bridge, Harriet, Harry. Nita. Sam and Sybil Vimes and young Sam." My voice caught, but I pushed on. "Mother and Daddy. And Squall."
I took another deep breath, held it, then let it out slowly. "I know that's not a complete list. And I know that everyone here has people you wish were here, right now. Because they would be so proud of us. I know they would. Because of what we've pulled together these past six years. So, let's us remember them. And raise our glasses in toast. To absent family and friends."
