Sports Night at The Catscratch!

So, maybe he should’ve known ahead of time, but trying to convince Kurt to come to the club? Was a big mistake. And kind of weird, when he thought about it. When he’d made the offer, it hadn’t occurred to him that he was opening that night, and that his job was to get naked in front of people, on a stage. And it was the look on Kurt’s face that got ( Read more... )

Saffron was circulating downstairs, talking to folks here and there, and if she'd been keeping an extra close eye on Lex since yesterday, well, it was only what a good unofficial bodyguard would do, in that kind of situation. She was supposed to keep him from all harm, including the self-inflicted kind.

She'd heard about the bottles, and held off saying anything for the time being. She knew Lex's newfound strength was something he was still getting used to, and would probably ironically master just in time to have the temporarily ability vanish just as quickly as it had come. But she'd been heading in the direction of the bar to say hello to him when he broke the third, which he might have gotten off with a half-joking warning for, but then he had to go and put his gorram fist into her bar. The bar that had been made for her by John Amsterdam, years ago when the place had been first coming together.

Lex was just lucky it hadn't been her bar upstairs.

"Ta shi suoyou diyu de biaozi de ma!" she swore, annoyed, hands on her hips as she surveyed the damage, along with Lex's fist still sunk into the wood. "Gorrammit, Lex!"

Lex glared at the rapid Chinese...but then he actually flushed in embarrassment when he saw an annoyed Helen standing in front of him. She was about the only one who could get that reaction from him.

"I don't think sorry is going to cut it, is it?" He carefully extracted his fist and glanced mournfully at the hole, then back up at her. "Though, I think the whore comment is a little uncalled for."

She just arched an eyebrow, leveling him with an unimpressed look. "It's an expression, Lex," Saffron said flatly. "It's not meant to be taken literally and you know it."

Stepping forward, she surveyed the damage, passing a hand over one of the cracks without actually touching the surface. "Well, I know a certain Beagle who won't thank you for the repairs he's going to have to do here," she remarked. She didn't actually know if this was something Xander could fix, on account of she didn't know much about woodworking, but she had to believe he could. If anyone could, it was him. And she wasn't going to accept that John's handiwork was destroyed, just like that.

Between Florence's arrival and this new strength, Lex didn't have much in the way of a sense of humor lately. But he had just wrecked part of his dear friend's establishment so she really had every right to say whatever she wanted.

He took a deep breath then look around for something to at least put over the hole for now. "I'll find some way to make it you both, I promise." He said evenly, biting back his embarrassment and frustration. Finally, he settled on a tray the glasses were usually stacked on and used it to at least make the bar somewhat flat again.

Saffron's fondness for Lex meant she couldn't stay truly angry at him for long, and she softened at his attempt to come up with a temporary fix for the break. "I know," she said. "But for now, why don't you take the night off, get a handle on things." She smiled, just a quick flash of one. "We can manage to get by without you for one evening, I think." She knew he hadn't meant to break anything, but it was probably in her club's best interest to keep him from breaking any more of her booze bottles or furniture.

Lex wanted to protest, hating to admit he could be defeated by something like a misfiring super power. But he respected and loved Helen to much to say it. So, as tremendous an effort as it was, Lex bit back his pride and nodded. "Alright. I suppose it would be safer for everyone." He knew he should offer to at least clean up the mess but then he figured there was a possibility he could make it worse so he should cut out while he was ahead.

"I am truly sorry." He said softly, just for Helen's ears. Lex knew she'd understand why.

She did understand, and Saffron appreciated the fact that Lex had probably had to swallow a bit of pride in order to keep from arguing the point. Her smile was a little more lasting the second time, and she stretched up to kiss his cheek. "I'll talk to you tomorrow, all right?" she said, more of a statement than a question.

Lex gave her a flash of a smile that was more for appearance then he actually felt before nodding. "Alright. You know where to find me. And if I'm not there for breaking the chess set, I'm sure Anatoly will tell you were he sent me." He kissed her cheek in return before looking at the mess he'd made sorrowfully then taking his leave. This was more then embarrassing and he hoped Anatoly didn't ask why he was home early until tomorrow morning.
