Running along the beach on the island wasn't like it was back home. Growing up in a city, Sam still wasn't used to the lack of lights on the island. There were always lights and sounds in a city and while the island wasn't as deserted or silent as you might initially expect, it wasn't a city. By the time the sun went down, it could get dark, which was why he always tried to get his run in before sundown.
It was something he had done casually back home, but since coming to the island he had decided that maybe it was something to start taking a bit more seriously. After all, screaming and running like a madman had saved his life numerous times and probably would have saved it one more if he could run a bit faster.
Today, he was finishing up just as dusk was settling, and it made for an incredibly tranquil run, which is what he needed. He had a lot on his mind lately, and he wanted to just forget it all for a bit and a hard run was a great way to let that happen. He pushed himself hard, focusing on how tired he was and how his muscles ached. It wasn't a very effective way to run, but it gave his mind something to focus on.
But the time he was done, he felt exhausted, but was entirely grateful for the exhaustion. Sucking in deep breaths, he snatched the bottle of water off the ground he'd left at his towel and poured it over his head before taking several big gulps of water. Again, not the best strategy but right now his throat was too parched for him to care.
"Okay," he said, once he had gotten enough to temporarily slake his thirst. "Now I just need to get someone to carry me back to the Compound. Are there no rickshaws on the island? Those guys with the weird bikes outside of sporting events?"
[Good time to meet him, ST/LT always welcome!]
