Sometimes, he really misses when life was fucking simple.

He's pretty much used to being in pain, by now. The nanobots (fucking nanobots healed the wound into a pretty neat white scar but the prosthetic chafes and his muscles complain. He limps. He falls. He's used to his hands being torn, arms and face being bruised. He stumbles. He feels like a fucking retard, most of the time, but, somehow, he manages to keep going.

He wishes the others were here. Shit, he'd give his other fucking leg to see Heather, never mind Will or Johnny.

Some days, it seems like he could go either way - he could wrap himself up in being an asshole, the same way as he did in Jingletown until everyone except Will and Johnny and Heather and Gemma had had enough of him (even his Mom couldn't stand to be around him) or he could figure out a way to grow. Change. Be a better fucking person. He introduces himself as Joe just as often as he introduces himself as Tunny, these days. Maybe something's got to change.

Today, he's getting back in the water. He's promised himself. He couldn't face walking down to the waterfall pool in boardshorts (he's not ready to be that visible) but, by the side of the pool, he strips off his t-shirt and his pants. He sits down, gingerly on a rock. The prosthetic is well designed, slips off easily enough and he trades it for the other, carried in a backpack. The design makes sense: a flatter paddle shape for pushing through the water. He pulls it on and shifts his weight, shuffling on his ass closer to the edge of the pool.

Gritting his teeth, he eases his prosthetic into the water. He pulls his good knee up against his chest and fights against the sudden stinging in his eyes.

At home, people call him 'Tunny' because of his Dad, because of how good he used to be in the water. His dad died when he was a kid but, by then, hardly anyone called him Joe anymore. So maybe nothing was ever really simple.

But he misses when it felt like ti was, all the same.

ooc: two things, for reference: (1) Tunny's left leg was amputated above the knee. The stump has healed but he's very obviously got a prosthetic and (2) Tunny has extensive tattoos. There is a list of what your pup can expect to see here. Find him at the big waterfall, either in or out of the water. ST/LT absolutely welcome!
