Party in the Hidden Hamlet for Logan

Aug 08, 2011 05:10

It was no secret that Jack had been planning a party for Logan. He'd made all the arrangements, had gotten a cake and made sure there was liquor as well as sweet talking some other food out of Helen. Maybe not sweet talking so much as just asking, but Jack liked to think he was still as charming as ever. He'd gotten everything set up in the common ( Read more... )

Kon always loved a party. He loved a party especially when he wasn't in the best mood and, with Tim vanished for the second time, he wasn't really in a good mood. But he'd always been able to fake it, so when he found out about Logan's birthday, he was there. He knew what he wanted to do for Logan's birthday, but he wasn't sure how to do it or even who could. Maybe he'd stop Jack and ask him. He'd probably know someone.

He looked around and saw a few people he knew. Neil. Helen. ...Savannah?

"Kon! Hi!" Savannah said cheerfully. She had to turn to face him completely and the shape of her body in the rather flattering maternity dress was distinctly unlike it had been for the past few months of how she'd looked in baggy clothes and flowing sundresses.

She looked pregnant.

"Oh! It's so good you came. Come over here and have some cake."

Kon did come over, but he didn't look at the cake. Instead, he was looking her stomach. Staring at it, really. "When did...how did...who?!" His eyes shot back up to her face and he shot her an accusing glare. She hadn't told him she was pregnant?

She was serene under his gaze and his words didn't upset her at all. She only rubbed her hand across her stomach.

"Oh, don't worry about all that," she said lightly. "Come on. Helen made the cake and it's just so good."

"Don't worry?" Kon shook his head. "Just let me know whether I should be beating someone or congratulating them, at least." He hoped, for her sake, that it was the second option. Though he wouldn't mind beating someone's head, he didn't want it for her.

"Oh, Kon, honey, you could congratulate them. It's not even my baby," she said with a soft, light laugh.

"I haven't said anything because, well, I didn't figure it was anyone's business that I'd decided to do this. I...am a surrogate. And Logan and Jack's baby is due at the end of the year."

"Oh." Kon felt a load lift his shoulders and he smiled hesitantly at her. "Well, then. Uhh. Congratulations? That makes you, uh..." He did the math in his head. "Four months?" End of the year was December, right?

"Twenty weeks. The books count pregnancies in weeks," she corrected gently, though it had been something she'd thought too before she got pregnant.

"And I gave Logan such a special gift for his birthday. And Jack too, but Logan first."

Savannah smiled sweetly.

"They got to feel their baby move for the first time."

"So am I allowed to hug the pregnant lady?" he teased as he moved closer to her. He wondered briefly how she'd actually gotten pregnant, but decided that ignorance really was bliss in this case. He was just as happy believing that it was all due to test tubes.

"Oh! Of course!" Savannah laughed and closed the distance between them. She hugged him tightly, more tightly than was warranted. Even with her friends and the children and Logan and Jack, Savannah was...lonely. She didn't really touch anyone and since Peter had vanished she had been...

She wasn't going to dwell on that. Not at all.

Kon might not have noticed. Since Tim had disappeared, he'd been a little clingy...or a little abrasive, depending on which person he was talking to. This was Savannah, so it was definitely clingy.

"I think I know why you didn't tell me," he murmured into her ear. "You didn't want someone hanging around, wondering every five seconds if they can do something for you. Too late now."

"Oh, Kon," she laughed, rolling her eyes and smacking him on his chest lightly. "I don't need anything. Billions of women all through history have had babies just fine."

"Uh huh. And millions of women have had overprotective big brothers looking out for them. Or, well, usually overprotective husbands, but..." He flushed a little. He wasn't going to propose marriage or anything like that.

"But I don't have either. I've got you," she said happily. "You really don't need to be overprotective, though, Kon. I'm fine. Really."

Kon snorted. "Then think of me as your adopted big brother." Because they weren't thinking about that random, drunken kiss. "And I know you're fine. I'm just making sure you stay fine."

"You're so sweet to me, Kon," Savannah said. Her smile and her eyes gave away just how deeply she was touched by his words.
