"That was so cool!" Coraline said smiling brightly. Bobo trailled after the other lady, wagging his tail and barking up at her. "Thanks, he's really... energetic. He always runs at things before thinking."

It’s been a while since she’s made conversation with someone she doesn’t know on this island, let alone someone far away from her age, but she realizes she misses it, misses the ease of a conversation with another person.

Taking her hand, Juliet smiles warmly. “It’s very nice to meet you both. I’m Juliet.” She wonders why she’s never seen Coraline before and tilts her head to the side. “Have you been on the island long?”

“I was never allowed to have anything other than fish when I was a kid. My dad didn’t like cats and my mom claimed she was allergic to dogs,” she says with an over dramatic eye roll that any teenager could appreciate when talking about parents.

“No, he’s not here. I wish though, sometimes. He’d like being able to surf every day.” Something Coraline says though, strikes Juliet’s interest. “Cat was just helping you out? What do you mean?”

Coraline picked up a stick, throwing it for Bobo who bounded after it eagerly. Coraline pressed her lips together thoughtfully. Most people didn't believe in monsters so she put it in the simplest way she could. "Someone tried to kill me but Cat helped me escape. And he helped me try to find the other dead children."

“So, what kind of cat is Cat?” Juliet asks as she sits cross-legged in the sand. She’s not going to jump right in to ‘tell me about the dead kids’.

For some reason this feels familiar. Not that it's exactly similar to what she's gone through, but the world that's the same but isn't hits home a little.
