Christmas Blues

"You have got to be kidding me."

That had been Ray's initial reaction anyway. Nearly five minutes later and his language had turned a bit more colorful. He'd tackled the mistletoe methodically, trying to rip it away so it would let him loose but he was still caught beneath it, looking like a prized idiot most probably. It was pretty much the end of ( Read more... )

Jo looked up from the magazine she was reading and stared at the guy like he'd just lost his mind - well in her mind he had because really? He was trying to threaten her and the others in the room into kissing him?

He really must have lost his mind.

Making a show of swinging her feet up on a coffee table, Jo arched her eyesbrow. "Is that so?"

"Yeah, that's so," he mimicked, a frown creasing his brow. He kept his badge on show in the hope that its influence was just a bit slow kicking in. "What the hell's happened to the season of goodwill?!"

"Uh huh." Jo flipped a page in her magazine, obviously not worried about his threats. "I'd like to see you try and arrest me." Maybe she should point out that she was now part of the IPD, but she decided not to, this was more amusing.

"What the hell happened to asking nicely?" she tossed back at him, rising to her feet and hooking her thumbs into her jean pockets.

"Please," Ray enunciated in a childish tone. He was very close to pulling a face at her but had just enough restraint to glare instead. "I don't beg, so I'm drawing the line at that." Not that he could get on his knees anyway.

After a beat, he covered his face with his hands. "Please. There, that was nice."

Jo continued to stare at him, not moving an inch toward him. He was kinda pathetic, in a really really sad sort of way.

After a moment, she pulled her hands from her pockets and crossed her arms as she took a step toward him. "There ya go." She drew in a slow breath, hardly believing she was actually thinking of helping him. But the whole pathetic thing was factoring in.

"Alright, if I do this, there's some rules. One, no tongue. This'll be a straight forward quick peck kinda thing. Two, no touching. You touch, I kick your ass. Got it?" She's completely serious, though she's quite aware that because of her size it could actually be taken as a joke.

Ray lowered his hands slowly, peering over at her. At six foot, he hardly thought she could even reach his ass, let alone kick it.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," he waved a hand dismissively before rubbing them together, "pucker up. I got things to do."

Jo eyed him, not sure he understood that she was being serious. But whatever, if he tried anything, she would hand wipe the floor with him. She was really good at that. Carter had found it out the hard way. And Zane... She shook her head and drew in a deep breath.

Focus on the pathetic guy.

"Right," she nodded finally and stepped forward into his space. Quickly she reached out, her hands cupping his face and pulled him down to her level - she stood a whole 5'4" - and swiftly pressed her lips against his in a complete caste kiss.

It was the gentlemanly thing to kiss her back and his Ma sure had brought him up a gentleman.

"Mazel tov," Ray quipped once it was over, leaning back and offering her a charming smile.

Oh whoa. Jo did not remember there being any part in there where he could kiss her. She was tempted to haul off and punch him, but she hadn't said he couldn't kiss her either. Dammit.

Letting him go, she stepped back and reached up, quickly wiping her lips off. If he got offended? Pfft. She really didn't care. "Whatever. Don't say I never did anything nice for you."

"The words will never pass my lips, halfpint," Ray grinned, seeming oblivious to her insult. Since smooth was his middle name, he had no qualms about slipping straight into charm mode. "So. Now we've got the awkward sexual tension out of the way, what's say we get you a drink?"

Oh hells no he did not just call her halfpint. Jo's jaw clenched and she glared at him, her gaze sweeping over him once as she mentally sized him up and caculated his weak point.

Closing her eyes she lifted a finger and shook her head. "That's one. And by one, I mean one warning. I might not be all that tall, but believe me, I can take you down and make you hurt in ways you've never even thought about."

Opening her eyes, she held up another finger. "Your sexual tension comment? That's two. No way in hell was there any sexual tension here. Ever. I may be relatively new on the island, but I am far from one night standing it or anything like that. So stop now, before I get to three."

Ray's lips quirked but he was the picture of good behaviour by the time she'd opened her eyes again. For about a second anyway.

Short and feisty. Exactly his type.

"What happens at three?" He cocked his head at her. "Do you start man-handling me?"

Crossing her arms, Jo stared at him. This guy, was either stupid, suicidal, or a combination of the two.

Lowering her head for a moment, she drew in a deep breath. Taking a half a step forward, she lifted her gaze to meet his and arched an eyebrow questionably. "Is that something you really want to find out?"

"You'd attack a defenseless man?" Ray shook his head and tutted, giving her a look from head to toe. "Kissing me would be a lot less hassle for both of us."

"You're suppose to be a cop, right?" Jo asked, her eyes narrowing again as he looked her over. "I know for a fact cops are suppose to be in shape. At least where I'm from they are. You afraid I'm going to hurt you?" She might just be mocking him. Maybe.

She held her finger up and shook her head. "Not going to happen. Ass kicking is more in the cards I believe."

"I'm a good cop," Ray corrected, so confident in his abilities that he slipped his hands into his pockets and showed no sign of being on guard. "And I'm in shape. And if I could move my feet right now, I could take you in a second." He tilted his head at her. "But my Ma always taught me never to be violent towards a woman, so... I'll just stand here and admire you instead."
