Alex had never seen snow before. For that matter, she'd never really even experienced cold weather before, at least not by most people's definition; there had been chilly evenings, days that seemed cooler than the rest, but she knew full well that it could have been much, much more than that. Having spent all her life in a climate so similar to this island's typical one, the weather here was an easy thing to take for granted, even though it was a similarity that left her missing home a little more than she might have otherwise, unable to completely separate this place from it. She suspected that she'd never be able to anyway, but that was a side matter. It might have been a little easier if the two places' likenesses weren't so obvious, with everything else reminding her of how different they were all the while.

In the time she had been here, she'd read up, and heard talk of the wintry weather that seemed to be an annual occurrence, and as such, had been aware that it was likely to happen again. Even that hadn't prepared her for when it actually happened, though, waking up to find everything blanketed in white, with little flakes falling steadily from the sky, the landscape changed as if to fit its new environment. Despite being absolutely freezing, it was kind of thrilling, too, something new that didn't just make her homesick.

Dressed in all the layers she could manage, she was making her way from Sawyer's up to the Compound, intent on finding something warmer to wear - because, really, to call it cold was a definite understatement - when she stopped, instead, on the path, head tipped up, arms held slightly out to her sides. It was a childish gesture, and cliché, she knew, from what she'd seen, but it wasn't one she could help. The pink houses might have been a little much, but so far, she had the distinct impression that she was going to enjoy the next month or so.

[Timed to earlyish Wednesday. Slow and late tags are more than welcome; it's an excellent time to meet her.]
