Draco Malfoy was furious.
No, scratch that. He was too bloody tired to be furious. This was simply the cherry on top of the pile of shit that had become of the life he thought he'd known back home.
It was late. He sat alone, in a dingy pair of Muggle blue jeans and a well-worn t-shirt, shoes off and his hair in disarray. Lord, his mother would've had an absolute fit if she could've seen him. He could practically hear her now. Draco, show a little self respect. You're a Malfoy, act like it! She meant well, in her own way. Of course, she'd heard the same sort of thing from her mother, when she was a girl, but there were times when he wished he could have known what she might have been like, if she'd gotten out from under the thumb of Lucius Malfoy, The Black Family and their Dark Lord.
There were times when he thought she might have been wonderful, if she'd given herself the chance.
On the table, was a cooling cup of tea and a half eaten citrus spice biscuit, pilfered from a tin in the kitchen. Scattered around him, in various piles, were Muggle magazines, glossy, immobile photographs of Harry Potter and his friends staring up at him. There were dozens, dating back for nearly ten years, but they spoke of the series of Muggle films he'd already seen bits and pieces of and the actors cast to portray them all, instead of the real events. There were small, inset pictures of some Muggle thief wearing his face, and even other photos of a blonde, wide-eyed pixie of a girl with a face he knew intimately well, but nearly every article focused on this Daniel Radcliffe bloke. Nearly every article was about Harry fucking Potter.
There was a headache building behind his eyes, but he hadn't thrown the fit he'd been sure was on its way. He sat quietly, twisting the serpentine ring on his finger and glaring down at all those faces.
Draco Malfoy was in desperate need of a stiff drink.
