It'd been a long time since there was an actual preacher on the Island and Chase had been curious about the new one that was spending his time at the church. He couldn't exactly get himself to set foot in there during the sermon, but he did wander in after, eyeing him curiously and trying to size him up. "How long have you been giving mass?" he asked, trying to make it about the man and not the God.

Boyd turns, heart levied a little that his words have brought forth someone new.

"Not long, friend. And I must admit I'm not what you would call an ordained preacher. But I do try. My name is Boyd."

"Chase," he introduced in turn, extending a hand to be shaken, still a little unsure about his place even inside a church, but talking to someone couldn't hurt. "Man of god, though, I assume?"

Boyd shakes his hand gladly and settles down on a seat. "Yes, I suppose you could say that. I am seeking out God's purpose for me in this place, the island I mean. And yourself? How long have you been here?"

"Almost five years," Chase replied in that dry way that he had when it came to the disbelief of not believing that he had actually been on the island for that long. "I'm not sure that I still know my purpose, but I'm getting there day by day."

"That is an extremely long time," Boyd marvels. "And might I ask how you have managed to occupy your time for this many years?"

"I'm a doctor," Chase provided, because even back when he'd first arrived and didn't know what to do with himself, there was always injuries. "So I started in the medical clinic. I'm still there, but I run the Psych clinic now, as well."

"That is a noble way to utilize your time," Boyd praises. It is far more noble than many of the various occupations he has discovered. "I wonder about the Psych clinic. It seems that from what I have seen, there are many distressed souls on this island."

"Define distressed," Chase asked, because that wasn't usually what people jumped to and he wanted to clarify that before he suddenly found himself in a conversation he didn't realized he'd put himself into.

"Distressed from finding themselves here and not knowing why," he explains. "In the short time I have been here I have found many people wondering about their purpose. How to move on from this place."

"I'm not sure that some people want to move on," Chase pointed out, because he knew that he was one of the few people that had slowly settled in to the point that he was comfortable. "Some of us have loved ones here, that they can't meet in their world. I try to focus on helping alleviate PTSD related stress from island incidents."

"A worthy use of your time, indeed," Boyd praises. "Although I have also found that many people do look to God to make sense of things. I believe that is where I come in. As a means of help."
