A church of the most Holy order

Of all the challenges God has set forth in front of Boyd, He has also offered many blessings. Now, granted, the balance does sometimes seem skewed, but Boyd is now quite certain he is on the right course. Plans are being set into action even at this very moment. Holy secrets hidden beneath the floorboards of his own home, awaiting the time when ( Read more... )

He wasn't like her preacher in Lenoir, nor was he like the youth pastor in Chapel Hill. He was moving, though, Savannah had to admit that. Boyd had passion for the Lord, that much was clear. It was refreshing to find someone who had faith and held it firm and sure with conviction and without hesitation. Savannah was deeply religious but she was quiet about it. Her personal relationship with god was one of peace and often solitude. She spoke to God the most when she went riding. Midas knew her thoughts.

Sitting in the little island church felt right and she smiled as she listened to Boyd go on. She'd never heard quite so much about fury and purifying fires, but that was okay. The messenger was just as charismatic as those who she had known before. And his message was mostly the same.

Boyd is silent for several long moments after he is finished speaking, waiting as he does everyone time to hear even a hint of God's voice. It is, as always in this place, silent. But Boyd knows now, that He is listening and waiting.

He even sends blessings. "Ms. Curtis," Boyd says warmly, stepping down from his pulpit. "It does my heart good to see you here today."

"Call me Savannah," she said warmly. "That was quite a sermon, Boyd. You've got a passion for it. It's amazing to witness."

"It is God's spirit that you are witnessing," Boyd explains, settling next to her. "Back home, I could hear Him. Clear as a bell. Here I am acting on faith. But I am glad you found it edifying."

"Hello friend," Boyd says, head snapping up as his prayers are answered. Not by words but by the return of someone. The seeds of God are slowly coming to fruition. God is indeed most faithful. "How are you this morning?"

"Yes, well, I find that it does not do to get out of practice. I find myself drawing very close to what I believe is my role in this place which does bring me some comfort," he says in a measured tone. "And it did bring you here. So I cannot count today's efforts a loss," he points out with a small grin.

"That was nice, I enjoyed that. It reminded me of ...home," Delirium said, smiling at Boyd. She'd sat at the back, still and quiet for oncem listening to his preaching with attention. His voice was like home, like a warm blanket wrapped around her to comfort her and keep her safe. All the madness of her mortals put into one man and what a fun man he was. Almost as fun as Stephen.

"I will take that as the highest of compliments, as I believe your home to be far above and away from this place," Boyd says with a smile. He cannot put his finger on what she is, but there is clearly something of the divine in her. An extreme sort of divinity.

"Oh, it is very above and away and high indeed. And bright," Del said vaguely, glancing upwards as if she was telling him a secret. Del shook her hair, the tamed curls and bounced forward out of her seat. Del stopped infront of him and smiled. She was wearing a much more conservative outfit today, an outfit just for him. She was even wearing underwear. "Oh, I brought pie for you. Do you like... pie?"

"Yes ma'am, I do and it is much appreciated," Boyd says, gladly taking the offering. "Tell me, what did you think of my sermon. Did it ring true to you?"

Raylan has heard Boyd preach before. Hell, he's preached in front of Boyd before, mostly for his own amusement (but he happens to be of the opinion that God must have a pretty finely tuned sense of humour). For a moment, in the middle of the day, he pauses, and he just listens to Boyd's voice carry.

Boyd ends his sermon with his eyes closed, focusing on nothing but trying, trying so hard to hear any whispers of God's voice.

But perhaps He is speaking in other ways. "Hello Raylan," Boyd murmurs, head still bent in prayer.

"Hello, Boyd," says Raylan, wandering a little closer. There's a part of him that knows that he could walk away, leave Boyd to his sprirts, but there's also a part of him who suspects that they're in this together. Whatever the hell this is, and whoever the fuck they are to each other.

"Nice day for the Lord."

"Every day is a nice day for the Lord," he gently corrects, shooting Raylan a knowing smile. "Were you listening to me just now? Did you hear anything that caught your attention?"

Raylan is Boyd's greatest task. He owes him more than his life and he will repay him.

It'd been a long time since there was an actual preacher on the Island and Chase had been curious about the new one that was spending his time at the church. He couldn't exactly get himself to set foot in there during the sermon, but he did wander in after, eyeing him curiously and trying to size him up. "How long have you been giving mass?" he asked, trying to make it about the man and not the God.

Boyd turns, heart levied a little that his words have brought forth someone new.

"Not long, friend. And I must admit I'm not what you would call an ordained preacher. But I do try. My name is Boyd."

"Chase," he introduced in turn, extending a hand to be shaken, still a little unsure about his place even inside a church, but talking to someone couldn't hurt. "Man of god, though, I assume?"

Boyd shakes his hand gladly and settles down on a seat. "Yes, I suppose you could say that. I am seeking out God's purpose for me in this place, the island I mean. And yourself? How long have you been here?"
