"This is horrible," remarked Temperance Brennan to anyone within earshot.
In the lab, it wasn't likely that anyone would be listening, but that might have been the purpose in the choosing of her location. Some would have argued, and with a distinct possibility of being correct, that a lab was no place for this kind of activity. Labs were for work. Experiments, theories, the meeting of the minds-- also all meant for a lab.
She couldn't, however she tried, quantify her actions as the result of anything other than boredom. Boredom in the lab rarely ended well. See: Hodgins, Jack. And yet, she wasn't ready to leave her place of emotional safety, not when she was working her way slowly and methodically through the Twilight series.
Booth III gurgled from the aquarium nearby, and she raised her eyebrows at him. "It is too." Just like a squid, and a Booth, for that matter, to argue with her about this. "It's terrible prose. I don't understand why anyone would feel a connection with the protagonist. She's admittedly socially awkward and appears not to like people at all, hence her connection with the supernatural, and her resulting erotic obsession towards people who are not human."
Temperance closed the book momentarily, but didn't move from her position, at the desk with her feet kicked up. The squid drifted towards the other side of his little tank. "Besides, Jacob is clearly the most viable option, for a number of reasons."
