It was bloody tedious, is what it was.

He missed the days of lab assistants. Eager little worker bees at his disposal. They had volunteers, yes, but there was a kind of pleasure derived from torturing those fresh-faced students that was lost entirely on the island. Or perhaps it was something lost in him, but those were thoughts he felt best not to nurture. Still, more distressingly, he missed no longer being the smartest man in the room. Whatever changes might have occurred in him during those last months on Galactica, hadn't entirely stripped him of his arrogance, and there was nothing like no longer being the most famous mind in the universe to frak with your ego.

Sitting in a tailored lab coat, a pair of goggles hanging around his neck and rubber gloves tucked into his pocket, Gaius scribbled half-heartedly at his notes, rubbing at tired eyes. This work was far beneath him, made difficult by a lack of supplies, outdated equipment and possibly a general lack of care on his part. One day this work might just save lives. He knew it, could even feel a bit puffed up at the gratitude he might receive for it, but right in that moment, he wanted nothing more than to go home, tend to his garden and not think at all. What bliss that would be. But his garden was nothing but mud, and he'd never been particularly good at keeping his own mind quiet. Not when he wasn't under the influence, or perhaps in the midst of an orgasm.

And that, quite frankly, was his problem. Celibacy had never agreed with him. If only he could stop pining for a woman who no longer existed. Ah, if only life were so simple.

[[Find the bored, tired, and apparently horny Gaius Baltar in the lab. New faces, old faces, any company will do. ST/LT more than welcome.]]
