Once, he sat on an airbase just outside of Baghdad, listening to a conversation about what everybody missed, back home. He'd been watching Nate walk away at the time, so he hadn't really been listening, but Brad had never really missed anything from home, anyway. He loved his family, had, in time, loved his girlfriend, but when deployed he commited fully and utterly, his heart and soul. A warrior had to be utterly in the moment and Brad had excelled in being a warrior. In the end, though, he had admitted to one thing: he did miss his bike.

Sometimes, at night, he still dreams about his bike, the endless stretch of the highway north of San Diego, heading up the coast. Harleys were beautiful, no question of that, but Brad has always loved his Suzuki because it was so fast. All he'd ever wanted in the world (outside of the Marine Corps) was that: speed and solitude and nobody in the world to touch him.

Luckier in more ways that he can imagine and living a quieter sort of life, Brad still misses his bike like a limb the little boat is not really a subsitute but it'll do. It's tethered to the jetty, just bobbing away and the only evidence of the Marine lying on his back inside it are two bare feet trailing in the cool, clear water. Brad lies there, looking up at that clear blue sky and then, in time, he closes his eyes.

No speed, but solitude. It's enough.
He's not looking for the same things from the world as he once was.

ooc: one Marine, ripe for interruption. Find him tethered to Shari's dock.
