The facts were these: for the first time in a long Charlotte Charles found herself to be in something of a situation. As far as situations it was a relatively minor one. No bones were broken, no bodies whose murderer was on the lamb and needed to be found.
In fact it was so minor it was almost unnoticeable unless one knew where to look.
Spread out in lieu of possibly more traditional breakfast fare was a large array of cakes. Coffee cakes and breakfast sausage casseroles and different sorts of fruit. A nice angel food cake had just been pulled from the oven and was cooling on a rack as she thought about what sort of icing she would give it.
Drumming her fingers on the counter, she wondered if she was perhaps out of line for not attempting even one little pie. The very thought of a pie, with fruity contents and a flaky crust made her stomach churn. For the first time in a long time, the girl named Chuck picked cake over pie.
Fruit. Perhaps some sort of melon angel food cake. That wouldn't be too odd. Reaching for melon she rolled it back and forth for a moment before picking up a knife to slice it up.
