Though she wouldn't be taking any part in it, Karen enjoyed watching everyone else do the speed dating thing. It was nice seeing people connect, but even better seeing the mismatched dates. Not that she'd ever admit it out loud ( Read more... )

She was there in a completely unrelated reason to men of her past. That was what Robin kept telling herself. Barney, Lewis, Richard...they were great, but they were in her past and she needed just some kind of temporary palate cleanser was all. She felt like if she didn't get that, she might just honestly go crazy and the best part about speed dating was the sheer quickness of it all. Like a one-night stand with words. And she could do that right about now. It was kinda about all she could do right now.

At first, Coop couldn't help but be reminded of Melissa when he set eyes on his next date. Thinking about the girl you dumped for someone else just before arriving on mindfuck island probably wasn't the best thing to do during these things, but it was hardly his fault. Though it wasn't really hers, either. Just a case of unfortunate looks... Not that she was unfortunate looking, 'cause she wasn't. She was hot, as a matter of fact, it was just that--

Yeah, this would go well.

"Coop," he said, with a quick point up at his name-tag. 'Fitch' had been crossed out and replaced by the more preferred nickname. "Hi."

"I'm Robin," she introduced herself, tapping her name-tag just the once because it wasn't like she'd gone and changed her name. ...at least, not her first name. And not this decade. And no one needed to know about any of that. "So, Coop, you do something like this often?" she asked pleasantly enough. "Or is this a first?"

"This is a first." And possibly a last, but it was still early in the game and he didn't think he'd made a complete ass out of himself just yet, so maybe it was too soon to make that sort of call.

"Are there speed dating repeat offenders?" That just seemed sort of desperate, or maybe something that fell right up the alley anyone with commitment issues. He didn't think he fell under either of those categories. "Are you one?"

"I am," Robin confessed with a tug of her lower lip with her teeth. "I'm just out of a relationship, actually," she admitted, because hey, why not go for the honesty and scare the guy off. They only had a couple minutes, she might as well get a head start on it. "I kind of just want something light and easy and without pressure."

Chase set his drink down before he set himself down, pushing his hand back through his hair to get it out of his eyes, and offered the brunette a crooked sort of half grin and then his hand, extended across the table.

"Hey, I'm Chase."

"And pretty," Robin helpfully added, since he neglected to mention that little part of his introduction. "Almost too pretty," she teased lightly, because hey, she didn't mind a good-looking man, especially if they were attracted to the Robin-magnet. "Robin," she replied with a hint of a smile. "Come here often?"

Chase laughed, ducking his head and shaking it slightly.

"Yeah, but usually not for organized social time, yanno? It is officially a lot more awesome than I'd figured it'd be, though," he added, gaze flicking over her before he smiled a little more.

"Nice to meet you, Robin."

"Officially, huh?" Robin joked with a half-there grin. Some things, like the word 'awesome' were always going to remind her of Barney and she wished that she could hate him a little for that, but she only ever really admired him slightly. Damn him, anyway. "You ever done the speed dating thing before?"

"Nope," Chase said with a shrug, "never really felt the need. But I figured it'd be somethin' to do, right? What about you?"

"Trying to get over a bad non-breakup. I mean, how are you supposed to get closure when you don't even get to properly break up?" she scoffed. "I mean, then it's just getting dumped and there is not nearly enough alcohol in this place to deal with getting dumped," she said, truly pissed at that.

Something in Chase's expression shuttered and closed off, even though he was still smiling easily, casually.

"Heh," he breathed, "yeah. That shit sucks." He took a longish drink from his glass before resting it on his thigh again, and when he flashed her a smile the bit that had been shut down and put away wasn't visible anymore.

He was getting better at that.

"I'm pretty crappy at that kind of advice, though. But I mean, we're both at speed dating, so that's probably obvious," he added, grinning in a way that reinforced the joke.

He was there, not like he could judge.

"I think I'm just tired of mourning," she admitted, if it really came down to that. "I'm ready to get proactive about all of this, whatever that means. Usually speed-dating is a good way to pick up a rebound. Not that I'm only looking for that," she said, trying to cover her bases.

Alistair was admittedly grateful to see a familiar face. Sitting himself down across from Robin, he already felt a little more relaxed than before. Anything was better than the first meeting.

"We meet again," he said, his smile friendly. "How are you doing?"

"Hey!" Robin greeted eagerly, smiling warmly and being way glad that she wasn't carrying her gun on her today. One meeting like that was kind of okay, but two was pushing the boundaries of being more than a little strange. "I'm good. Didn't expect to see you here at a speed dating thing, though," she admitted honestly.

"Didn't expect to be here, either," he admitted, looking sheepish. He wasn't exactly the best when it came to this sort of thing. Talking, he could do. This went beyond that. "A friend convinced me to try it, though I can't say I think I'm doing a very good job at...whatever I am supposed to be doing here."

There was nothing like this in Ferelden, essentially meaning he went into this blind. It was a little intimidating.
