Though she wouldn't be taking any part in it, Karen enjoyed watching everyone else do the speed dating thing. It was nice seeing people connect, but even better seeing the mismatched dates. Not that she'd ever admit it out loud

This was the first time that Juliet was doing this when she wasn't working a case and she sort of didn't know how to approach it any other way. So instead of going in with a preconceived notion of a ne'er-do-well, she was just going in with the hope that her hair looked okay. She smoothed her hand over it as she adjusted in her seat and told herself that this was just for a laugh.
Besides, it was definitely better than sitting alone in her bed and thinking about all the things she wouldn't get to do tomorrow since she wasn't in Santa Barbara anymore.
Juliet perked up when she had a man sitting down across from her. "Hi!" she replied brightly, trying not to let her nerves sway her. She exhaled a deep breath and forced her shoulders to go down a couple inches before they got dangerously high. "Is this your first time doing something like this?" she asked suspiciously, given the look on his face.
Juliet stared at the flower for a good moment before she took it gingerly, making sure that it didn't fall over anymore. "It's a very pretty flower," she enthused, trying to be very upbeat about all of this while not thinking of how her time was running out. "I'm Juliet," she introduced herself. "I didn't bring any flowers, though, I'm sorry," she apologized profusely.
"Well, I think we talk," Juliet suggested hopefully, not exactly knowing if speed dating on a crazy Island was like how you did it back home, but the only way she had ever done this, she was looking for a murderer. "Maybe you could tell me a little about where you're from? What you did? I'm a former detective from California," she provided, hand to her chest. "And now I'm on the IPD here!"
Yeah, that wasn't exactly something that Juliet heard everyday. "Huh," was all she could eke out at first, trying to focus on the baseball team part and not so much the soldier of the Lord thing because she barely managed religious fanatics back home. "What position do you play?" she asked. "And I was a detective. So, murders, kidnappings, robberies, you know, that kind of thing. Not so much a soldier for any lord, though!"
"Pretty sure I still am," she agreed, slightly weirded out by the turn that the conversation had suddenly taken. "...do I not look like I should be?" she asked, suddenly wary now of how much makeup she'd put on before coming.
"Well, yes, I merely meant--" Castiel shook his head, deciding not to bring up his previous otherworldly self. It didn't always elicit the best reactions. "Nevermind."
"So...what made you want to become a detective?" he asked, mentally congratulating himself on coming up with such a good question. This might yet have the makings of a normal conversation.
"I liked making things right," she said with a very firm nod of her head. "I always loved playing cops and robbers and being the cop and putting bad guys away. I guess when I grew up, I just decided that I wanted to do that for my job. I wanted to make the cities a better place to live."
"That's very kind," Castiel said, likening it to Dean and Sam. Juliet probably had less demons to deal with. "It must be nice that it's something you can still do here."
"It's nice to not be bored," she agreed, opening her mouth to talk about the job some more when she looked up and saw that everyone was switching and that they were officially out of time. "Good luck!" she said, when it became clear she had to get things moving. "With your next speed-date!"
Alistair he never done anything remotely like this. Still, Devon had said he ought to give it a try, and he wasn't one to shy away from any challenge. He just kept reminding himself it wasn't that serious. Plus, Leliana had once told him to just be himself with things like this. He was good at being himself. Obviously.
The next table had some pretty blonde he'd never met before. After taking a deep breath, he went over and sat across from her.
"Hello," he greeted, shooting her a smile. "I am Alistair, if you couldn't tell by this card I've been told to put on myself."

He was, frustratingly, a little clueless.
He sat down and stared at the woman across from him. "Hello," he tried.

"Yes. I'm...not sure what's expected of me, exactly. Here is a flower." He held it out, it was white and just slightly crushed.

He sat up a little straighter. "Now what do we do?"

Castiel relaxed a little, and smiled. "I was a soldier of the Lord. Now I'm on the baseball team here," he said. "What sort of cases did you solve?"

"You were human, right?" He wouldn't expect her to have been a soldier, she didn't look nearly hardened enough.
