Occasionally, the power of suggestion was a very strong motivator in making Juliet's decisions for her. Someone implied that she could dress her best and maybe she went out and empowered herself. She woke up every day on a beautiful sunny Island with a beach and eventually she was going to go dip a toe in the water ( Read more... )

Gus just happened to be walking by when he heard Juliet talking about birds and princesses. It was only natural then that he got a little worried that maybe she had lost her mind. Once he turned to actually look at her, it all made sense, but that didn't stop him from looking away quickly, as if she were naked. It just didn't seem right to be staring at Juliet, of all people, in a bathing suit and contorting herself into...positions that called attention to the chest area.

So Gus had his hands in his pockets as he stared nonchalantly in the opposite direction and said, "Hey, Jules."

Juliet turned to look at Gus, then had to double-take because he wasn't exactly looking at her and that was making it kinda difficult. She knotted the towel around her waist and took a couple steps closer. "Gus...?" she tried. "Gus, you can look at me, you know. I'm not in a bikini or anything. Everything's covered," she promised.

"I know," Gus said instantly, one shoulder lifting in a shrug as if showing how ridiculous Juliet's statement was. The act was a little ruined by how he still hadn't turned to look at her.

He glanced towards her, and when he saw that she was standing normally again, felt it was safe to turn. "So, have a good swim?" he asked, looking only to her face.

"It is beautiful out there, Gus," Juliet insisted excitedly. She wasn't totally on board with the Island yet, but she could appreciate the small things and she really liked the notion that she could take a dip in a tropical-like environment and have it be so beautiful. "You should join me sometime! I just do a couple laps and come back to shore. No danger involved," she swore.

"Yeah, that sounds all right," Gus said with a nod. He could stand to do some swimming, and--wait. He gave Juliet a look. "Wait, why would there be danger involved?"

"Well, you know," she offered, with a mildly concerned look. "Riptides? Jellyfish? Sharks? I mean, there's nothing like that in this particular area, I checked," she promised. "But with any ocean, you have to be wary of those things."

Gus was starting to remember why he didn't spend a lot of time in the ocean. Even back home, he always preferred to be on dry land.

"Of course. I knew that. I thought you just meant, you know..." He cast around for a probable yet crazy example. "Sea monsters."

Juliet opened her mouth to respond to that and then closed it because she was sure that some of this had to be Shawn's influence and okay, so now she was going to have mild nightmares about sea monsters. "Not so much. I mean, for a brief moment, I entertained the terrifying notion of the kraken being real, but I filed that away with my nightmares about clowns," she promised.

Gus filed away that clown knowledge for later use. "I hear there was a sea monster attack," he said conspiratorially. "But I'm sure you know what you're doing, being a cop and everything."

Juliet blinked rapidly and then relaxed mildly when she realized what Gus was talking about. "You mean the squid?" she clarified. At least it was a giant squid, but it was something that she had heard about before, which was better than mythical objects that could eat her. "Yeah, if I see a tentacle, I'm way outta here," she promised, slightly crazy-determined.

"Squid? Right, right, the squid." Gus should have known better than to listen to rumors. Especially when Shawn was repeating said rumors; Gus was pretty sure he hadn't even been there, so how would he know there had supposedly been three heads?

"Good idea. So, you're going back in, or are you done for the day?"

"I think I'm done," she said with a mild hint of wariness, because it wasn't like her day was super-packed, so her schedule could probably withstand a little more sunbathing and swimming, but she did want to go by the office and get in some hours. "I mean, maybe. I was thinking about reading up on some past events and current people now that I'm an IPD member in waiting," she enthused excitedly.

"Sounds like fun," Gus said, and meant it. He was a big fan of learning everything you could about a subject, even if certain other people thought that made you a nerd with no sense of fun. "You know we've got the Psych office around now, right?"

Just in case. Sometimes, Gus believed their own hype, and besides, he was bored.

"Do you?" she asked with mild surprise. "No! No, I hadn't heard about it, but maybe I guess it's also for the same reason that it's not like the police are booming in business?" She tied her towel around her waist as she pushed one hand out to make a sudden emphatic gesture. "Not that you guys don't deserve business, but kidnappings and murders are sort of on the low side here."

"And thank God for that," Gus said with feeling. The last thing they needed was for serial killers to start showing up. "I'm a little surprised people haven't tried to get Shawn to do readings or something, though."

And if they ever did, Gus would be standing by to roll his eyes at the dramatics.

"He said that his psychic visions are blocked," she said, thinking back to one of their very first conversations when she had found him on the Island and (more importantly), found him alive. "Has that changed? Would he be able to do a reading?"
