February has to be one of the worst months of the year. It's just going to have to be. Kate can't quite comprehend the idea that every month could be this hard, so February is designated the worst month. It's the first full month without Jack, it's Jack's birthday, their anniversary, and Valentine's Day. That's ridiculous. There's a lull coming up, though,of birthdays and holidays and obvious reminders of what they've both lost. Now it's going to be more in the little things, the every day.
There are a lot of little things Kate's going to have to acquire for Sam's sake. Jack was the one who played and romped and told Kate when she needed to take a break and relax. Now she has to be all of that, for Sam. Yeah, Sam's got his multitude of gay Uncles, but this is something he needs everyday from a parent.
It's with that thought in mind that Kate and Sam set off for first the playground and the trampoline. Sam is absolutely elated, and Kate can't help but feel bad for shutting him in the house for so long. It just takes a lot more energy than she has right now, to get through a normal day. She's hooked his little leash on to his pants (because newly fun parent or not, he could totally do a header off this thing) and let him bounce unsteadily around the trampoline. After the 15th or so time falling down, he pushes up and crawls back over to her, patting her knees with his chubby hands. "Hey you," she murmurs, leaning down to kiss his sun-warmed face.
"Hi mama."
Kate's eyes widen and she lets out a choked laugh. "Hi, Sam." She snatches him around the waist and rolls onto her back, pushing him up into the air as he shrieks in delight, arms and legs waving as she grins up. God, what a month this has been. She lowers Sam back down to the trampoline and bounces a little, watching him laugh as he moves to pat her face.
"Mama."
"Yeah, kid," she laughs, nipping at his hand, looking up as she hears a newcomer.
(ooc: this is a good time to come visit or meet her. She's not likely to cry (much). This is actually a fairly happy moment. Plus, Sam's about to get really chatty so if you would like to see his attempts at mispronouncing your pup's name, now's the time. Slow time and late tags are just fine)
